you hit a nice shilouette, this will come out fine, i think! hope to see it on the o.s.w., good work, lad! Carsten
Yes, it does start to look like a car again! You have done a good job so far of setting the bones. Keep up the good work. mo
thank you! yes i will keep up the work and hope it gets good, i do my best and its real fun see it coming togheter pice by pice.
Yes i think straight b pillars looks more classic so thats what im aming for, it had been less job lening them but i dont regret the choice
Got the whole right side finished today so im really pleased even started looking at the back window, tomorrow im free from work so im gonna go and buy another Engine and trans for the mercury wagon so i will take a break from Ford and start installing the new Engine this weekend. The parts i need for rebuilding the 390 Engine is deelay so i will buy a 302 and C4 trans that just got 7000 km on them and lift in so we have one car driveabel now when the spring comes soon
Spent the whole day getting the 302 in the mercury and now it fits fine after i fabered motor mounts but i will have to fab oil pan, transmission mount and new driveshaft with slip in the axel becuse Engine and trans is from a 1969 Ford van, its the only Ford 302 that dont have the right oil pan and a C4 without slip joke, offcourse i buyed that basterd....Alot of work but seems like a healthy engine.
The motor is in the mercury so now im waiting for a new driveshaft and an oil pan so back to the Ford! Try to fit in the back window and get the right flow, its hard but will take a string and atatche to the roof and back and inspect the "flow" tomorrow.
Instead of using a string I will sugest you to use a long steel ruler , a tig welding rod or something similar that bends easy but still stiff enough to bend in a nice curve. By the way the chop looks good so far.
I dig the car! Love the mercury wagon too! Sweet little bobber as well. Killer garage, I want a lift! Hell, I want heat in the garage first, cold saps ALL of my motivation.... Its warm here this week tho, finally in the 40's at times, still a foot of snow on the ground tho.....
Thank you so for the tip! I will take a tig welding rod from work tomorrow and eyeball with alot stiffer than a string of course so i can bend a fine line....
Thanks! Here all snow is gone and today we had 13 degres celsius here feels like spring, and i had 21 degres celsius in the garage when i come home today thanks to the air heat pump like you Said a cold place really suck the motivation out of you....
Started to weld in the rear window today after mutch mesuring and testing very pleased with the roof line hard to caprure on camera but i think its look great in real. More to come tomorrow.
Todays update, friday i always quit early from work so i got mutch done. Welded all inside reinforcments that are original back in place and did right side almost finished. Yes i know bondo is not old school but im no king of lead so bondo it is, but i try to weld and grind my best to keep it to a minimum.
Todays work finished the back window with welding and layed som filler im pretty pleased with the flow so the last i did today was lay back the trunk and lay in windshield just to get a real look. Now the question is should i shave handels and locks? Im actually really like the handels on the 49s they look kustom from factory i think but the look without handels is real smooth either way im gonna keep the original side trims and not french the headlights just shave the hood. What you guys think?
IMHO, In this instance, I would absolutely shave the handles. BTW, if you ever decide to walk on the wild side... I remember a nearly stock '51 Ford convert (from "Reader's Rides" in the little pages) that crossed over with a set of '54 Chevy tail lights neatly frenched into the wind splits in a canted position. These might also look good on your ride.
You'll like the 390 and it will like petrol. That's what's in the '47 Hudson in my avatar. Get's around 9 mpg with a family of 5 loaded. The big thing I noticed in your garage is the Stars and Stripes on the wall. THAT'S AWESOME!!!
Thanks for replying guys i never bulit a car with handels so i almost knows the way to go.... Sounds cool with 54 lights MO but im more in the traditional kustom look, thanks for the tip always fun to hear suggestions
