THANKS, NoboD.:p I generally confine my comments to American-made stuff, since that's what I've followed all my life. I always appreciate it when somebody (or, NoboD!:D) weighs in to fill in the French, German, British, Ausie, etc., side of things!:) Gotta love the HAMB.;) 'nough jaw-boning for now; I'm off to find some cool pix to post!

Yo, McVictim! Cool pix! Hey, how far back does Tad's/Mearle's go? Does it go back to the '50s when they still sent carhops out to take people's orders so they could eat in the car?

  9. I do believe it was built around 1940, my Dad worked at a little radio staion (KTKC) outside of town after the war and would go eat there after work. Mearles and the radio station building are in the middle of town now. Sad note about the station building it stood for a long time unmolested, glass brick art deco, then was remodeled a few years back to look like every other ugly building in town.

Fantastic info, McVictim! AND, through thick & thin, it SURVIVED and scored a spot on the historical-places register! LIVING history! WOW. Who's the lady in the top photo, BTW?

  15. Since it is on the Historical Registry does that mean they are restoring it in the bottom pictures? Hope so. Don't know anything about it but I hate it when they tear down a neat old building to put in another drive thru Starbucks that matches the one across the street.
