Mr Attic, Thank you for sharing such personal photos. Your family look like there was a lot of love and you had a wonderful upbringing.

  9. Dodger, I know what recapping is, I wanted to be sure those were recapping machines.

  13. I started this effort as a distraction, but as it progressed I greeted each marathon session with a little anticipation. I found pictures of family and places I'd never seen before. My intent was to give our family's next generation some reference to their heritage, but as I sorted the boxes and boxes of images I found several that I thought this "family" may enjoy. Most everyone in these I share is gone now accept me so I'm not too worried anyone will be offended.
    Here are a few more of Dad's Merc. 1956 Merc6.jpg 1956 Merc7.jpg 1956 Merc8.jpg 1956 Merc9.jpg 1956 Merc10.jpg 1956 Merc11.jpg

Interesting images... in my mind's eye they remind me of the "environmental portraits" of Lee Friedlander / Diana Arbus in the 70's. It's SO realistic it's kinda cynical. But I like it! Gary

    Fan Attic,
Thanks for posting those great family pics. What a beautiful Merc convertible. I'll bet your family enjoyed a lot of nice trips and made some lasting memories for all involved!

  16. Sorry about stating the obvious. Wasn't certain why the question. Now I know.

  20. Just a couple quick ones today. The '38 was built my Dad and his brother (my Uncle) and sported a big Jimmy six, Lasalle gear box and two speed rear end, and a button on the dash that would spray water across the radiator. My Uncle had to commute across the Mohave and it apparently got the job done, in a hurry. The two sporty looking lads with the '49 just got back from a tour with "The Canoe Club" in Korea and are about to leave to a blind double date which resulted in me, eventually. The '61 Monza replaced the '56 Merc. 1938 Chevy.jpg 1950 Chevy.jpg 1961 Corvair.jpg

FYI, one of my ultra-double-secret sports car enthusiast friends who shall remain forever nameless provided some info on this cobra / tow truck - the same photo was posted just above in B&W.

Photo by: Dave Friedman. This is Allen Grant's Cobra. Mechanic, in pic, is Ole Olson. A privateer car that actually was going to beat the factory cars in one race, but had some issue. Paint and graphics designed by George Lucas. THE George Lucas.

Sorry, but that is a Corvair Monza, not a Spyder. The turbocharged Spyder model wasn't offered until '62

Very nice family pics Fan Attic. One more little correction, the "'50" is actually a '49, a very cool '49 Fleetline. Thanks for posting.
