    37 Dodge Coupe.jpg

I posted this photo a few weeks’ back on the Meltdown Drags thread, but it may be more appropriate here.

This is my 37 Dodge coupe and me in 1961, at home in northern New Jersey. I was age 16 (70 now).

It had a Cadillac engine, Olds Hydro transmission and Ford rear-axle assembly. I would like to say that I put it together, but I bought it like this. Back in the day, you could buy cars like this for minimum $$$.

On this day, a neighborhood pal was roaming with his camera. I am forever grateful to him for taking this photo, because I only have photos of a couple of my early cars from back in the day. And there were a string of them.

Probably like a number of other old-timers, I didn’t have the foresight to make a photo record of those early years. I still have contact with a couple of hot-rod buddies from back then, and they didn’t take pictures either. I’ll always regret not taking pictures when opportunity was there.

Finn, you hit the nail on head about taking pictures "back in the day". Thought never entered my head. Wish I had a few now.

  16. Sorry about the quality. My home PC died so my scanner is down for a while.

The reason is: We couldn't afford a camera back then!!
I finally bought a Polaroid Swinger around 1963, ..but it was b&w.

Hope you don't mind me fixing up the image a bit, since it's a way cool photo:

Hey, that is an improvement. Many thanks. I don't remember what the camera was, but considering that it was 1961 it would have been pretty basic.

Anyone think that would fly as an auxiliary headlamp today? The kid looks like he's having a ball.
