I wonder if it ended up in Fort Worth? Down the street from where I work they used to have several of these in various stages of restoration..

I believe this was found during the building of the Autobahn in Germany so not much chance of it ending up states side but you never know........

They used the Autobahn for runways in various places and that may explain the 262 found near the road. It probably became unserviceable and was thus pushed back into the trees. By early '45 the American and British fighters roamed the sky unopposed and strafed everything that even remotely looked like a target. Planes were pushed deep into the woods near roads and the Autobahn so that may explain this scene.

  15. I don't know about the road bldg. part, but seeing a GI in the pic, I think this is just 1 of many planes that were abandoned by the Germans due to lack of fuel & no exper. pilots. By the time 1945 came, the Germans had to hide a lot of planes in wooded areas, altho, sometimes along roads that could be used as runways,
As to Ft. Worth, the "TEXAS AIRPLANE FACTORY" was formed by a Mr. Tischler & Mr. Snyder. The newly built planes were built from & plans copied from an original 262 from the Naval Air Station in Willow Grove, Pa.

Note that still has a towbar attached, so it did not crash there.
