hi moondog ,I'm an aussie living in the US , but that hasn't changed my ideas on taste and style , I know some of the replies seem a bit harsh , but when a person posts on an open forum it's usualy to get a respons from other users , most find the elvis car unatractive, ,just my thinking on the subject

With all due respect, all I can think of when I look at it are those ostentatious stretch limo's done to ridiculous lengths. The workmanship looks to be superb, but the final product is....errr.....a bit too much, IMO. Bigger (and longer) doesn't always mean better.

Kudos to following your dream, but sometimes a dream doesn't always turn out well. Maybe it's a cultural thing?

  6. You've generated too many negative opinions here, so I'll keep mine to myself. BUT, if you want some advice, that thing has WAY TOO MUCH RED!!!!!!! Paint the engine another color right away. I mean like TODAY!
Chrome the valve covers and pulleys...........just get rid of ALL that red between the cowl and radiator.

The only thing I would do different is the exhaust..
One header per bank instead of two..
Always wanted one of those 702 monsters !

Thanks everybody for the replies I think your replies are awesome.

The intention of building this car the way I did was to attract attention to it as everyone knows positive and negative usually generates the same amount of general talk in the rodding community.

I would like to mention some of the shots of the car may look a little bit misleading on the length of the car because they are at a distance, when you are physically around the car it does not seem to be as out of proportion.

The car was displayed as seen on this site in an unfinished state at the Victorian Hot Rod Show in Melbourne Australia two weekends ago and it definately the talk of the Show and yes the crowds around the motor was great to see and the different opinions from people trying to work out how I welded two motors together was at times quite funny to hear and then when I explained the details of the motor alot of people were amazed that this motor actually existed (it was a good time at the Show).

Some of you have said to hide the motor, that would have been the easy way to do it with a motor of this size however the car IS this motor and I did not want to hide one piece of it, some have said pinocchio - it has been stretched two foot and I think it is probably an appropriate name.

One person said to leave it to Rod Hadfield, Rod is a really good mate of mine and he is an inspiring man. however he is not the only one that has a lot of different creations in their head to build, I have several different concepts in which I am piecing together at the moment.

So people will be able to see the car I will be taking it to all the major Capital Shows in Australia and a trip is being planned to the USA by Norm Hardinge of Aussie Desert Cooler Radiators, Rod Hadfield and myself mid to latter of next year to take our cars.

Once again thank you for your feedback it is awesome.

    Yours in rodding

perfect example of why you wheel it out of the garage and stand back and get a good look at it. sorry but no thanks.

  13. I guess sarcasm doesn't work in typed form!
All jokes aside i know it isn't everyones cup of tea but I like it.

  14. Personally I don't care for it but I do have to say great attitude. Too many post their creations and then take offense when people make comments. It is nice to see someone take the good with the bad and post a calm well thought out reply rather than the usual "well let me see what your car is like" comeback. Good on ya!!

  15. What color will you be painting the motor after chroming a few pieces? It would make a big/positive difference

Oh, what the hell. I have an opinion but decided to keep it to myself yesterday. Today I see so many more of you having a say so I'll chime in too.

I agree with the opinions about the proportions of this car. It doesn't work for me. But my thinking is that Elvis has built a wacky car but hasn't followed through with the wackiness.

Elvis, I reckon you need to really commit to the cartoony nature of this car and go all out, and I reckon you can pull it off. MUCH bigger wheels and tyres on the back, and smaller on the front (a lot of weight there I know). Heaps of chrome, maybe some flake.

Go to town on that thing. At the moment it looks like any other nice '32 with a big sucker of an engine and stretched frame.

I think your comment that that motor IS the car is very telling. It's OK to build a car around a motor but you need to complete the package.

    All the best

    Pete

The car doesn't appeal to me either, but I agree with K13. Besides, Elvis knows a thing or two about Hot/Street Rods.

Hay Elvis that is a sweet ride.It takes big balls to build something you want that is a little different from all the others. Bet that V-12 sings.

I like it Rod Bods, and yes, this is a great post with a great attitude.
I like the choice of engine, but yes if it were mine I would not have stretched it quite so far, maybe recess the firewall (& cut into your legroom), and bring the radiator back, could you loose 10-12" then?
I do have one question, Where are the bloody spark plugs?! I've looked hard at the pics, and can't se them anywhere, are they in the valley?

hah!, I'll bet if he put some rusty old pick up cab with a fake gas station name,Some rubbed out paint to look like it's patinated ,skinny old magnesium spoke rims on the front without brakes on a fucked up old Ford I beam and some shit looking old halibrand bald centers with tired old slicks on the back with a Ford a diff and a shit engineered box section chassis with dubious steering and suspension geometry with air bags and put it together in Podunck Ill,USA that all you would hear is " Bad Ass Dude... .Cool dude....Thats kills dude...killer car dude... I hate you dude...." But no,He makes it shiney and uses a body HE MADE HIMSELF and an engine no one else ever thought of using and builds it in Australia and he gets the hate attitude.

But if i had built it, I would have shortened the rear of the body about 6 inches ..to get this look.

  25. Ok, I have to say out of proportion and as a result, ugly.

You can walk around with a fish hanging out of your mouth and that will get looks and attention too.

Just because he built it doesn't make it right, balanced or attractive, and spare me the "he built it to please himself" plea. It's all about 'in your face' not aesthetics.'

That is bad ass.......what is it?

  28. Another vote for a different engine color, bigger tires, 1 exhaust manifold per side, and maybe moving back or leaning the radiator shell.

I think it can move from a very interesting car, to an attractive car.

All POWER to you for thinking outside of the box. No cookie cutter there, only a V16 could be better.
