History TRADITIONAL GASSERS, Gas Class cars and modern TRADITIONAL cars.

  1. Not exactly what classic American author O. Henry had in mind, this Henry-J gasser ran C/Gas, here at Fremont, CA, for owner-driver Tom Olson.

  2. The “Gold Rush” Model-A Ford two-door sedan plants the tires on Fremont’s sticky starting line against a Willys coupe. American mag wheels up front and front-end lifting power says this was a serious C/Gasser!

Ed Eckard and Carl Kirk. This car (much) later became the first Super Gas national champion with Ed's son Steve at the wheel. Steve has since raced a number of S/G cars but recently purchased another Anglia which should hit the track this year.

  5. Late model bodies - that was the main factor in the demise, because it blurred the lines between the FX cars, stockers, and eventually Funny cars. If they had not allowed newer bodies, say a '57 or '59 cut off, the gassers would have survived much longer in my mind. And Ohio George certainly was one of the first, if Not the first, to go late model when Ford forced him to put the Mustang Body on the Willys chassis. Just my opinion ;)

    Hello,
The C&O Willys pickup was a fast gasser. (these guys installed a very early C&O Stick-Hydro in our 58 Chevy Impala.) In 1964, they showed up at the Lions Dragstrip "All Gasser Meet." The meet featured the best on the West Coast in all classes. This is an elimination run against the Airoso Bros. Willys coupe.

  16. Sadly, this truck was totaled in the mid-late 80's, while parked at the street races. It was parked on the opposite side of "the track" on Wentworth Blvd, in Sunland, Ca., and rear ended by a passerby. The truck was dark blue, & parked in the dark, in a no parking zone partially blocking the curb lane. It was a dumb move by the then owner, and very unfortunate.
