111.jpg I need help identifying this toploader trans. The bolt pattern looks exactly like a 37 buick roadmaster but the top cover has 7 bolt instead of 6. The case looks a little different as well. Can anybody help?

does it have the large 3-bolt boss on the drivers side where the pedals mounted?

  5. Although it looks like a Roadmaster, it also resembles a '35-36 LaSalle, if memory serves........but it usually does not today.. (Will see if I can find some pics of the Buick Rm, I was considering a few years back)

The drive shaft flange existing on the pictured trans takes it out of the Buick realm.
All early Buick's used an enclosed drive shaft & a torque tube.

This is the front of a 37 Buick roadmaster Trans. Looks the same to me but the rest of the case is different

  8. Now I recall some of my confusion; the Buick trans. I was considering had been converted to open drive with a '50 Olds shorty tail-shaft. (Can't seem to find the pics right now)

  9. I vote for early Cad or long shot on a Packard.

Probably the Cad/LaSalle suggested above. Here's a pic from my 1949 Motor's Manual that may be it.
Per the caption - this trans was used on all '35 and 36 LaSalles but Cad used it only in the 1936 model 60 . The book also has a pic of the trans used by Cad in '35 and in their other '36 models and in the '37 V-16 but it's a very different design. Seems odd but those were odd times. Opinions?
