Inspired by a post read on bangshift.com about the eleven most influential gassers of all time I've spent all afternoon and a good part of my evening on Facebook and the Drag Cars In Motion thread copying pictures of my computer. It's been quite the task but I think I've got it narrowed down to my top eleven gassers of all time. In no particular order. (and not all of them are famous either) Just most of them.:)

  10. Gene Cromer's Moonlighter does it for me,,the man and the car impressed me when I was a teenager and more than 40 years later the man and the car is more than just a memory, the same man and the same car is still doing wheelies and wowing people and he ain't no spring chicken.

Yeah,The Moonlighter is my #1 Gasser of all time. HRP

    Then...

I'm a little prejudice, SWC Swindler I and II, Ohio George's 33, Big John's 41, K.S. Pitmans 33 Willys, are without a doubt beautiful cars, but the East coast gassers running out of Jack Merkel's shop are my favorite's.

  14. LOL I really like the "Filthy Forty" but I have to guess it must have lost a race because the most recent pics of it shows it all clean and purdy. :D

SWC was always a favorite of everyone, myself included. But this sinister lookin' bad buckeye is one I count a personal favorite.

Certainly the SWC and Ohio George cars were large influences "back in the day" because they were available in kit form at K-Mart or your local hobby shop.

For many local cars were the influence. For many local tracks were all they knew and local care were the big influences. We didn't have internet build threads and pics readily available the next day.

  18. wvenfield,
About anything Ohio George drove was a big deal. In my mind he was MR Gasser. I wish more of the fellas would look at his stuff and say now this is a gasser.

There is an east coast gasser that I can never seem to find a pick of that I really like called the Wappid Wabbit. It is just your basic '55 Chebby that was a winner,

Which is why nearly everything he drove came in kit form.

Today people will claim real gassers weren't hardtops or have whitewalls.

To me, their are just to many great gassers to narrow it down. All of the above!! Plus a boatload more. How about : Harry Luzader's '32, Jack Coonrod's Willys, Prock&Howell Ftroup, Ariso Bros Willys, Johnny Loper's Ol Hoss and Lil Hoss, Blair's speed shop Angila and '55 Chevy', Jr Thompson's cars, King Kong Angila, and pretty well anything built by Chuck Finders....the list can go on&on!
