    Why it is important to promote our hobby;
    Have you've been to a model T or model A event lately? it's sad, they have dindeling numbers, They are a dyeing breed, and that's whats waiting for us twenty years down the road. think aboat it , most of us are from 40 to 50 years old, shure they are some guys in their twenty's and thirty's, but they are the ones hardest hit by the recesion, lately ,I don't get the calls anymore from young kids that want a model A body, they can't afford it , they are just trying to pay the rent and feed themselves.Many have had to sell their project cars just to survive, I have on the other side seen a large number of guys in their sixties and seventies getting back into the hobby, these were the guys that were careful with their money and did'nt get wipe out by the recesion. they like our stlye of cars because you can build your own car in your garage and not pay some shop 40 to 60 grand to build it for you, they can drive their cars every where and not have to buy a toy hauler to protect their 15,000 dlls paint job. Our stlye of cars also brings back memories of the cars they use to own as kids. Happier times when the world was'ent run by greed and status symbols.
    Even street rodders are in trouble, and are paying for their sins, for years we were the social outcasts of the hobby, they would scorn at our cars and state that our vehicles were unsafe and shouldent be allowed on the road. To many of them, their cars were a status symbol, and the game was to see who could spend the most money on a car. They were always worried aboat being in vogue, and what the new stlye of the week was. Now they are running in droves , trying to sell their vehicles, and finding out that they are only worth a third of what they invested in them, some are slapping on coker radials with the hope that their cars will be cool again. I have nothing agaist street rods, they are an important sector of our hobby, they are very funtional cars that can be driven every day if you so choose, the problem is they forgot how to have fun with their cars, they show up to show and fight each other to power park, the minute they open the door of their cars, they break out the dust mop and their main concern is what people will think of their car, instead of enjoying the vehicle and driving the piss out of it.

    Smokin joe, I noticed in your post, it mentions that the United Street Rods of Idaho were sucessful in establishing property rights for storing project cars, If you could please post a copy of this bill, it would be greatly apreciated. It would give us a bluprint on how this was achieved,

    The last time I did a thread on this subject , the thread got shut down because it turned into a heated debate aboat politics, so please people keep a cool head, and don't post your political beliefs, I was as much to blame because it afected me personaly. We are trying to find a positive solution to this problem. We have been hit hard by this problem in Southern California, The problem is that code enforsment ordinances are dictated by the county board of supervisors , in each county where you reside.These ordinances are not laws that were voted on by the public,but rules that dictate what you can and can't do on your property. Each board of supervisors is usualy composed by five members, they decide and vote on what you can store on your property, They are publicly elected oficials , so in each term , the rules get changed.
    I agree that we shouden't hang a flathead engine from the pepper tree in our front yard, this would be disrespectful to our neigbors and hurt their property values. notice I mentioned county and not city , these are rural properties that are in the outskirts of towns or citys, The problem is that in the last realestate boom, expensive homes got built in rural areas.
    For many years , the rule of thumb was as long as your back yard was surounded by a 6 or 8 foot fence, you could store things in your back yard, as long as you kept them from public view. In most countys in southern california , this is no longer the rule.
    The new rules are;
    You can only store a vehical in your fenced in back yard, if it runs and drives or if it inside an aproved garage.
    you can only store something that is 3ft x3ft x3ft on your property unless it is inside an aprove garage.
    No car parts can be stored on your property , unless they are inside an aproved garage.
    Nothing can be stored on an empty parcel, even if it is surrounded by a fence.
    If your neigbor files a complaint against you for breaking any of these ordernaces, a inspector is sent to your property, and you have thirty days to remove your stuff, if you don't comply, you can get fined up to 25,000 dlls. and the county will them remove your stuff, and you have to pay the cost for the disposal of your stuff.
    So why not build a garage? the problem is that the going rate for the permits are 30,000 dlls and it must be atached to your house.

    Most of us enjoy building our own cars, and can't afford to pay a shop to build it for us, some of us build cars or sell parts to help pay for our hobby. With out project cars or parts, our hobby is doomed, most of us , or some one new to the hobby can not afford to buy a finished car, so by not having project cars or parts, only the very rich will be able to afford our hobby.
    Please post any positive solutions to this problem, or legislators that can help us.

    Miguel,
    Code enforcement...Ive got a buddy who refers to them as the Yard Gestapo!
    We have a similar, but not yet as severe problem in Nor Cal.
    About 15 years ago our city had adopted strict rules on car and parts storage.
    It was to the point where if you had a obviously non-running vehicle in your back yard, they would take out fencing to come on your property and remove the vehicle without notice or consent.
    Flat tires and dead batteries, no matter the condition of the car, equated to a non running vehicle in their eyes...If it wouldnt run and drive at that moment, they could call a tow truck. Most times you were given 72 hrs to get it moved.
    A bunch of us started attending City Council meetings regularly to try and get this changed.
    There was even a council member who owned a wrecking yard and his tow truck was on rotation to pull the offending vehicles.
    We cried conflict of interest and they started listening to us and finally adopted a set of rules from a less strict neighboring county.
    For now, if a car or parts is/are not visible from the street or by the neighbors you are alright, unless there is a complaint.
    Unfortunately our city, like many others that are running out of money, will soon be looking for new ways to generate revenue. Couple this with new members on the council, and I can see the rules changing.

    The following is three websites that can inform you of legislation that affects our hobby, these are the guys on the front lines fighting our battles for us. you can view their legislative alerts with out joining their associations, this is helpful because they warn us of bills that are trying to get passed and can harm our hobby and it cost nothing to view them.

    Man I just heard that some poor guy got his 34 three window stolen from a hotel parking lot on his way to the round-up, that sucks, Guys do a meet and greet with other clubs at the hotel parking lots, keep on eye on each others cars, if you see some guys socialising in the parking lot, ask them to keep a eye on your car before you go to sleep, if they are some early birds that wake up early, offer to watch the cars ,while the rest wake up. try to park your cars together, introduce your self to the hotel security guard if they have one . With a little team work , our cars can be a little safer.

  24. I'd like to see these printed as stickers that fit on the back of business cards.If I can get the artwork I'd get some made.

  25. Glad to hear everyone like it. Stickers sound super cool. Let me first get an okay, a final okay from the TCCA staff and we'll make the appropriate art work available for download.
