Raymay, I'm with you. I think the '37 Chev was one of GM's best designs. I owned and drove a Pontiac powered '37 Chev for more than 16 years. I wish I still had it.

Awesome thread. I've nothing new to add. I've seen all of my favorites here, and seen a few that are new to me.

Well, I didn't have time for pics in the 1st response. I see that there's some really good company and taste here with regard to design. How about one of the 1st automotive designs that used a wind tunnel in development, the 31-32 REO Royale:

    Elegant, restrained, imposing...the Marmon 16:

Light, sleek, fast, the 1930 Packard 734. All 4 offerings were proportioned way ahead of their time, but the speedster is the big dog:

I'd trade off everything I have and have had for the last 10yrs for this one. 1934 Packard Model 1108 Dietrich Stationary Coupe:

If a 4dr sedan could be sexy or stunning or visionary, or whatever else could be said of the time, this one-off Perrless by Murphy, designed by Franklin Hershey at the age of 22:

I could go on and on and on and...

Another Delahaye and a Duesy with custom wood body...

  7. I'll second the cadillac.

I'd have to skip pretty much all the 30s fords and chevs though. Handsome? Yes, maybe. Beautiful? Very debatable.

  8. I'll add in this one........1930 Cadillac V16.

Great choices, all of them. I've loved that delahaye for many years.. breathtaking..., second choice would be almost any Duesenberg....

But I'd settle for a full fendered 33-34 Ford roadster.....

For the 30's cars, I just adore the old Dusenberg's & Pierce Arrows.

Such class. There is one very similar to the one in the top pic not too far north of here in the Reynolds museum.

Not even counting foreigns like Bugatti, Delahaye, RR, etc there are still some that shouldn't have made it over some domestic makes. There are some beautiful Packards, Chryslers, Buicks, Cadillacs, and Pierce Arrows that could be added. My favorite domestics not on the list are a 1938 Buick Series 60 Century Sport Coupe and a 1937 Cadillac V16 Series 90 and even then it's hard choosing between the coupe and Aero.

a stock bodied '37 Ford tudor sedan is my favorite 1930s car - this one is not mine BTW. all the FoMoCo design cues work and flow so well together on this model. love 'em.

I have to agree! That Nash you posted is the car that gave me the inspiration that led me on a 10 yr hunt to find my Nash.

  26. I really like these two. Opposite ends of the spectrum, but over the top styling for their time:

About 10 years ago I was looking for a 30s car to restore and was fortunate to find a '37 Zephyr coupe. I've been in love ever since. Yes, the one-off custom bodies are great, but there's just something about a car that you could go to the dealership and actually *buy* ;) ...

  28. As far as U.S. cars go my vote is for the Chrysler, Dodge, or DeSoto Airflo.

    .
Airflow's and Zephyr's are nice examples of beautiful cars cranked out by American factories for the average car buyer. Here are a few shots I've taken of both...
