Ive been wanting to rebuild my 32 ford coupe for a few years now and just have been to busy with other stuff to be able to, so finally i started dragging out some parts to do it with. basically im going for late 40's early 50's style hot rod, heres a rundown of some of the parts:

    Decent original 32 frame
    32 heavy dago axle
    1940 "a" flathead
    thickstun 2x2
    thickstun heads
32 trans case filled with 39 gears and topshift plate
wide five wheels, no hubcaps/maybe 40 wheels dunno yet,
    40 ford dash
    40 ford steering wheel

    and thats about it!

I built this car many years ago with a nailhead in it but decided i wanted to go back further and put a good old flathead in her, you see, my tastes have changes alot and have gotten to liking early style cars much much more.

So heres a few pics of some of the stuff, got the front end all bolted together for mock up mode, gotta change out the front crossmember on the frame and get that checked out and straitened out.

this build will be realitively easy because there isnt gonna be a huge amout of mods, basicalyl it will all bolt together, i need to redo the front floors in my coupe but that will be easy.

    Stay tuned for progress.

I also attatched a pic of some insparation.

Also its gonna ride high! no ultra low thing here, high and mighty!

Yuppers, subscribed as I want to see where this one goes. I might have left the nailhead in it though.

Love the ideas Titus!!! I have a similar plan for my '33 one day and hopefully that'll bolt together easy enough. I have a Weiand Cheater Heads and a High Rise 2x2 Weiand intake that I plan on using but that Thickstun stuff sure is sexy!!!

There is nothing cooler then a simple early ford with the right stance, wheels/tires and a flathead thumping in front of the firewall.

  9. Nice, Jeff....was great to finally meetcha at the HAMB drags...
I love flatmotors as much as anybody but...........don't let the buick motor go just yet. You may want it back in the hole later. Nice job on the roached-out body.

rad :) though it looks like hes building a nearly all new chassi for it so maybe he can just swap the body back to the 'old' buick powered frame ect if the mood ever strikes him?

The old chassis that was undernieth it is long gone, out of the country actually, i built a brookville unassembled 32 roadster body that i got from Bleed on the old chassis.

I all about overheads too but this is gonna be my around town cruiser, there just something about a flathead, im in no hurry to get anywhere anyways!

heres a pic of the roadster.

Rocky, your gettin old:)!!, it was at bonneville and it was nice to finally meet ya!

Small updates, dug into the frame a little, removed the broken crossmember, sand basted all the areas im going to be working on, need to fix the rear area above the axle its cracked, its an early-ish frame so no reinforcment plates, im going to make a pair and rivit them in. also the front frame rails were a bit tweaked, i loaded it up in the frame jig and worked on straitening them out a little, got em close, did some heat relieving on the frame hoping it will stay where its at when i put it out!!

Im gonna try and get the frame ready for the reinstalation of the front member, gonna rivit it back in per edwardloyd's nice tech post on 32 frames

Not much progress but i got one rivit done on my front crossmember, its hard to do it by yourself, heres a pic of the one and some tools for doing it, my buddy is into model T's and he let me borrow the stuff, i made a new end for the large air hammer and i used a nut and bolt and drilled the head to support the rivit and made it into a screw jack basically.

    thanks.

Well, i drive it more than around town, but i wont trust it to far at first, i have a "good runner" motor im gonna put it in, but i have a 59-ab block and a merc crank that im gonna build a nice new motor with, then ill travel futher.

Picking away at a few things, started bolting some of the chassis together, got the front end bolted on.

then onto the rear, i had most of the parts collected for a while, i got a pretty decent 36 ford rear end, has alot of black paint on its still, only downside is 411, i have a 354 gear set for it so eventually i will go thru the rear end and put in the 354's or build up another rear and swap it out.

so i dug out the wishbones, spring axle etc etc, dug out a 39 torque tube and driveshaft for it too.

Im not one who likes to modify a perfectly good 32 rear crossmember and spend all sorts of time doing it so i like to grind the spring to fit, its actually alot easier that many thing, i have about 20 minutes into grinding it, some people might not like this way but it works find and has been done that way for many years too, just another way to skin a horse.

so i got the spring fit, took it apart, installed the main leaf on the rear end then reasembled the spring pack on the rear and set the rear in place.

next on the docket is to dig out the motor and trans for it and get motor mouonts made and mount the motor and trans, then onto the torque tube.

One change that im gonna do from my original list of ideas is something ive wanted to do it but just kinda forgot when i started working on it and that is to run a 40 side shift trans and i also have a mint 40 column and column shift assembly, im also gonna flip it over to the left side of the car so it dont get in the way when me and the woman are driving around, like back in the day.

    heres a few pics.

got a little more done, got the trans yanked out of a 40 tudor project, yanked the flathead out of another 32 project that aint gonna have a flathead, mated the 2 together, put the 32 trans mount on it and swung it into place, bolted the trans mount up and just put a block under the front of the motor to hold it while i build some motor mounts, i also removed all the stock brake junk from the 36 ford rear end, and got it mocked up enough to get some measurements for the torque tube lenght.

Also got to look at how hard the side shift set up is going to be to make work, well see how it goes, i can always just bolt in the 39 trans but i dont want it to be that easy! i think im gonna make my own narrow pedal box and lots of other fun stuff.
