I hear what your saying Wardog. I have some thoughts like that on different aspects of wheels and their accessories.
I thought I had better add an image to try and generate some discussion. I really like Sam Boyle's gold 3W, but I just had to have a play with it.

  2. That's a really nice car and I think it looks even better chopped.

Ps just a little spelling correction it's Sam Boyle

As well as chopping the top, I dropped the front end a touch also!

  4. Hey Geoff glad you liked the pics, I have just had a chance to read over this thread again and especially about the Austin even going back to when you made the scoop. I really think that Austin is an awesome looking car and I'm sure I will not be the only one that will be keen to here how it goes on the strip? Is there an expectation on what times it will run?

  5. In relation to the wheels on the pickup I only wish I could modify pictures like you Geoff that could show what it looks like with black rims, caps only with wide white walls? The picture below was an item I won at auction on the reliability run on Saturday night, just so happens to be a wide Firestone whitewall. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1422352403.696151.jpg

Geoff , thanks for the write up, it was another milestone in me getting to do things I use to do before the injury . It was hard but I managed to do it . And yes the Austin A40 is a killa car, and even looks better in real , can't wait to hear the chevy mill roar, and Garry the owner is a good guy as well.

Gary I have a spare set of the full caps that are on Tony's '34 W ( actually they are mine, But we have since acquired a set for Tony ). I know they would look good on my pickup with wide whites. However my pickup isn't flashy enough these days to have such flashy wheels. So I will go for the more utilitarian black stealies.
Gary ( the Austin guy ) has no preconceived ideas of how fast the Austin will go. But it does have a small block that is well over 500 HP. So it should go OK, I think. Below is a shot of the Austin in front of Gary's other cars ( he's a Chev guy, but we can forgive him for that ).
Your auction purchase looks great and I am sure will fit right in with all your other hot rod memoribilia.
Yeah you did well Tony. The roadster was definitely in it's element amongst all the other period hot rods. As I said on the phone, it looks great with the hood on. So all the pain and mental anguish was worth it.

  8. I think that Austin will be a fun little handful.
On a different note, whilst I posted this over on the RC thread, figured it can't hurt to add it here for good measure.

Cheers, and looking forward to hearing more from you guys, and your progress with your cars,

Hey Drewfus, thanks for those images. They are great, but I know Tony will be wrapped to see those 3 hot rods again.

So tonight I went for my usual mid week drive out to Gary's to work on the Austin. He has got a lot done this last couple of days!

  10. If that Austin goes half as fast as it looks, it should be a rocket ship! And with over 500 ponies on tap it really should get up and boogie.

Geoff ,that means a lot to me and yes the pain all went away for those few days . And the roadster was right at home with all those hot rods. Garry the Austin is getting closer towards paint good work man, let me know if you need a hand. Andrew those three deuces are the real deal man .Geoff we needed your coupe there to make it a full house .
And thanks Gary for getting me the new striker to replace the one that broke on the way home. Hope to see you on the w/end Gary, as I am going to Feeling to get back treatment on Friday.

OK, I guess I had better post something.
So what have I been up to in the last couple of weeks?
AS we saw I have been messing with a wheel change for the pickup. Working with Gary on the Austin as well as a few other things for myself.
The other thing I have been doing, is making a new lower rear body section for my friend Wayne's belly tank. I won't go into an explanation as to why it requires this. But I have spent a couple of Thursday nights so far, still a ways to go. But here are a number of images of where I am at so far.

Hey Drewfus. All the major stuff is done I guess. Apart from me making this rear section. Then it is all bolt back together and have a test. Wayne has all of February off, so he will get a bit done. I may need to go down more than one night a week.
So I had best add an image. I moved the cars out to get on the hoist this morning. I'm always looking for that neat shot, here's on I took this morning!

  15. Cool shot Geoff. I actually saw my chev for the first time in over 12 months today, got me excited to get this damned VW out of my shed and start on it. I really need to get cracking on it. 1422691093067.jpg
Here's a picture of the chassis and suspension etc, the body's all stored in different places.

Looking good Mitch. It's a start.
Next time I come down to Tony's, I will bring the V windscreen frame down for you! You may be able to make use of it.

In a thread on the last page I showed a couple of images of the switch binnacle I am making for Gary's Austin. Today whilst out at Gary's, as he had the dash in the Austin I thought I would mock the switch binnacle in place to see how it all looked. I am very pleased with how it all looks and can now move on and finish the binnacle!

  20. Hey Geoff your metal work skills are first class, I bet Gary the owner is honoured to have you helping him on his Austin.

(FB) what's the go with this VW, what will that end up looking like? Have you got some pics of your old Chev that we can all have a look at?

  21. Thought I would share some pics that I took at Queenscliff today at the Geelong Rodders weekend run, although I only went for a quick look and the weather was crap there was still well over 500 cars there. 22. Thanks for the pics Gary, queenscliff's a great show.

The VW's nothing interesting, just a bay window kamper that I'm restoring for a mate to make some cash for the chev. The project's drawn out way too long though, what I thought was going to be a fairly quick and simple job has now been going on for over 18 months. Oh well this happens when you're going back and fixing other people's half arsed repairs.

I do have some photos of the chev from when I first got it (not too interesting to look at, just some very rough parts loosely assembled to resemble a car) but they're on the other computer, I'll post them up tomorrow for you to look at.

Geoff, that binnacle is really cool. You really are a master of metal.

Spoggie, I hope you get around to building it soon. Looks like an old time dirt track car. We are 8 inch deep in ice and snow with more falling. The toys have been in the garage for 2-3 months now. Seeing you folks down under playing makes me envious. At least I have a heated area to work in even if my project for the winter is reassembly of my daughter's Jeep Wrangler. The T is for my wife and I get to work on it occasionally around my other duties. I hope to build my dodge 325 hemi powered, chopped and channeled, 31 Model A Pickup once the T is done.

  26. Here's a picture of the chev not long after I got it (just thrown together), and a couple of pics I stole off the interwebs of cars that are built in the style I'd like to build it. 100_2891.JPG

Neat mockup Mitch. I like the headlights way down like that.

  28. Yeah I was thinking of chopping off the front frame horns and mounting the headlights on a nerf bar kinda like the Doane Spencer roadster. I did buy some slightly bigger headlights though, those ones didn't quite look right to me.

  29. Oh and I will be doing a build thread once I get started, there'll be plenty of art, model cars and other random stuff in it too (much like this thread) I must have a touch of ADD............ oh look a squirrel

  30. 150202Packard\'31.jpg Mitch, I enjoyed our chinwag at Chopped, but I think I like your post (above) better. Terrific project with real good focus. Looks like '54, 57 & '61 photos.
Ah, it's o/t, so I understand if I get my arse kicked, and apologise, but I'm gonna show a crap photo of a drawing I started on Sunday. '31 Packard roadster. 4600 lbs, 374ci, Lalique frosted glass cockerell radiator cap. Apparently, car originally cost as much as seven model A's. Yellow & black, with 19" wires on what look like 4" ww Lester tyres. The solid details ( to the eye, not nickeled, but beautifully chromed) & overall effect of this car I found to be unforgettable.
