Projects The Hitchhikers Guide Episode VI: Return of the Hitchhiker.... Hot Rod Model A banger

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Hitchhiker, Feb 15, 2013.

  1. This will be the chronicle of my model A truck build...updates on the last page.

It's about time a fill you guys in on what is going on in my world...

A few weeks back Hamber Chris posted about a recent 34 Ford pickup he found and purchased. Having been looking for a decent 30-34 pickup I immediately fired off a PM to him about it, inquiring if it would be for sale. It wasn't as his dad had already laid dibs on it. But as it turns out their good fortune was to be my good fortune. Chris's dad would need to sell his Late 31 wide bed Model A pickup to fund the v8 truck. Chris asked if I would be interested.

    OF COURSE I WAS!!!!!:D

I had recently been toying with selling the coupe and buying something nicer. All my spare time has been consumed with work lately....and I hope that will continue, So this was the perfect fit....plus I had money burning a hole in my pocket. Chris was super helpful and took a ton of pictures. The truck looked good, so I put a deposit down on it and Chris offered to deliver it in a few weeks as he was headed my way for the Early Bird Swap Meet.

Little did I know this would be the longest two weeks of my life.

But today was the day, So here she is. Honestly pictures don't do it justice. I love it. Every imperfection. I was honestly not expecting it to be this nice. So A big thanks to Chris and his dad for hooking me up.

At this point I'm not 100% sure what the plans are....but some changes are certainly in order....I just got to figure out what...I do have lots of parts left from the coupe that will probably make it on this thing and should help in the stance department....Unless the Fordbarners talk me into keeping it all stock...

SCORE!!! Chris and his clan are a great bunch. Will it be at Leavenworth?

    Feels great!!!

gonna miss the coupe, but driving is awesome.

Larry I'm shooting for the one with fenders.

    Right?

Completely understand your giving up on the coupe, more work left than time available. But a great experience nonetheless.

    This experience is better, yes?

  14. I've still got the dropped front axle from the coupe, the wheels and tires, brakes. etc.

  15. we'll see.

You have good taste my friend.

    Heck yeah it is!

correct on both counts. I wouldn't have the truck if I didn't start with the coupe.

Nice pickup, 16 inch wires will look great on that truck. Maybe just do some reversed eye springs since running a dropped axle with mechanical brakes will cause some fab work. This was my 29 pickup last year with some 16's borrowed from my roadster.

Leaving the banger in there or swapping it out for a V8?

  18. Well, I originally had visions of a v8, But it has the original numbers engine in it. I think that deserves to stay with the truck and not be messed up, so with that in mind I think putting a v8 in it is out. . I am currently on the lookout for a Model B 4cyl. I will then pickle the original away for safe keeping.

I'll save the V8 plans for another coupe or roadster on 32 rails. which I've already started collecting parts for....

Great little truck you have there Hitch! Those Swenson's NEED to be relieved of some of their cool shit, it's criminal how much they have.

Basically for that thing I'd probably just take Chris' old Model A coupe as a guide to get that thing looking more appropriate. Drop Axle, Juice brakes, Twin carb intake on the banger and new wheels and tires. You really can't go wrong!

  29. you read my mind...
