I thought this was just "normal" level super nice work. . . casting resin to match the original outside shape, etc. . . but when you step drilled the back side to make it actually "work" as a diffuser you really took it to the next level.

Before smeone backs into you and breaks one maybe you should make a two part mold so you can re-pop them . . . or sell a few copies.

Thanks guys for re compliments. The resin and urethane supplies were around $100 bucks I think. I wasn't happy with my first two molds so I ended up buying a gallon of the urethane. I made 4 lenses out of a quart of resin experimenting on the first one. I plan on making some more when I get some time, maybe something for the wifes Merc..

  12. Wow! Awesome idea. I would have never thought of using decending size cutter bits to shape the interior of the lens.

  13. Very very cool. Nice job. I've been wanting to make some lenses for the Dodge grille I have in my shoebox for awhile now, and you just demystified it for me.

If I can be picky for a sec, those are Forstner bits, not auger bits. What's the largest size you used? Looks like it would have to be huge.

:eek::eek::eek: everybody talks about metal working but this is a whole new
    world of possibilities...
What are the considerations to take into account so the resin does not fade with the sun, is there like an UV additive or just top notch resin quality?

    Thanks a lot for sharing.

Wow. Now the car has a pair of glowing red Dagmars at the back. VERY cool.

I suppose you could make amber ones for the front, too, eh? Imagine them replacing the black tips on these and using them as parking lights/turn signals:
