i use the english wheelto pre stretch the area where the beads will be but you can use a hammer and dolly or planishing hammer if you dont have an english wheel. figuring out how much to pre strech the panel will come with practice and getting a feel for it

a little progress on the RPU tonight. started making the floor pans and trans tunnel

    floor pans cleco'ed in place

want to make the trans tunnel as small as possible since room is tight in this one. so i made some blisters in the tunnel for clearance. also had to make a blister to fit around where shifter comes out. so here are the basic steps i took to make the big weld on blister

blister laid out, the black line is the hightlight or edge line of the blister

using thumb nail shrinking dies in the recip. hammer. i shrink up to the black line

    all the shrinking done

after a trip through the planisher

and all welded on. you can see all the other blisters formed in the tunnel, stills needs to be hammered and dollied and metal finished out, but that will wait until i get all the other panels made and fit up

Floor work is really awesome. Keep the pics coming, great inspiration & ideas for my winter 'to-do list'. Seems I've been stalled out on my 'A floor pans & you have made it look so easy. MAD SKILLs

started tig welding up the sides of the body

after a little grinding and some dykem for guide, and a pass with the file

hammered and dollied for a while. then hit it with the high speed sander with 80 grit

started with the DA on the top half, still need to work on the bottom some more. it is a tough spot to get to since i have to hammer left handed

got this one down off the lift for some work, put the new wilwood discs on the front, and starting on rear suspension

making progress on this one even though it is not necessarily hamb friendly but what the hell i will post cool pics of it . wanted to do something neat on the rear suspension and tried to same some room. so i decided to go with a cantilever coil over set up, nothing to crazy. everything works great and no issues through complete suspension cycle. still needs some minor things finished up

working on design and set up

all mocked up minus some little things like spacers and more tube work

    Corn fields, nice work.

Changing the rocker arm ratio can make the coil overs progressive?

You do awesome work. What a talent !!!!!

  14. Cornfield, Just ran across this thread and I am in awe over that transmission tunnel. Would be a shame to cover it up. Never seen anyone make those little tabs, along the edge. Nice touch!! The bomber seat, on page one ain't too shabby neither. Ever heard the term "steam punk" ??
As far as the cantilever suspension, first off it is way cool. How does that geometry help the suspension dynamics??? Hamb friendly??? Did you see Ryan's post earlier this week, about the European classics influence, on the Hot Rod world? The bar is being raised every day, by craftsman, such as you( and crew) Thanks for sharing.

thanks man, as far as the suspension, the way i have this set up it is just a 1:1 ratio so the spring rate and dampening will be the same as if they were mounted vertically.

i wish i had a crew to help me out lol. it is just me all day talking to myself lol.

Mike, that's just true art form right there. It would be a shame to cover it up! Nice work!

back to some good progress on the RPU. we stretched the rear of the chassis to help support the bed. ten mocked up a model T bed to get the idea of the stance on the truck. starting to look pretty good

then i got a crazy idea to do an all aluminum bed that is a close version of a factory be. here is the pass. side roughed in

should be able to get a lot more done in the next few days on the bed

  21. Nice work and I too wish I was closer to your shop as I sure could use some holes punched in my deck lid.

  22. I also would like to see a nice shot of the 5 window on the wall....That looks to be very cool wall art.

here is the goal of the build

started on the passenger front door skin. put all the shape in the panel with the English wheel, then tipped the edges over on the bead roller

Holy crap, the HAMB bar has just gone up at least 3 notches. What an unbelievable project.
...and it's NOT being built in California. ;)
