I just saw this car last weekend, as they have been draining the lake for some dam inspection/repair. Its unbelievable how much more the car has rusted out and deteriorated since these photos were taken! Quarter panels have completely rotted off, laying half buried in the mud now. I'm sure it was a 427 car, as it has the 15" K-H wheels that were specific to these and police cars. Suspension has all the 427/police specific stuff too. Engine and trans are long gone, most likely before the car ever got here. Either it was stolen and drivetrain removed, or a previous owner removed the engine/trans and dumped it in here, then probably reported it stolen and collected the insurance money!

  3. The VIN tag would be valuable if still on it.

Here is what the car looks like as of last weekend. Looks like being out of the water back in 2008 or so really accelerated the rusting of this one

Wonder why some big-block fan didn't fish it out and haul it away back in 2008?

  7. So the govt hauls it out of the drink and just leaves it to rot on the shore. Hmm, what's wrong with this picture?

More likely is that the "shore" had water 15' deep before they drained the lake down.

  9. Yup, cars that have been underwater for a long time just crumble when exposed to air. Not sure why.
I have one(yard art)......it's basically a pile of rust molecules holding hands. If you sand blasted it, it would disappear.

  10. You know, I am not sure that one will buff out..:(

I remember seeing pics of this car a few years back. The story was that it was brand new when stolen from a car dealer's lot. Taken out for a joyride, and finally dumped in Chilhowee Lake in TN. You can see that the front tires have tons of tread, while the rear tires are toast. I have no idea, the only part I'm pretty sure about is the location.

  16. It's only Erie if it's in Lake Erie. Otherwise, it's eerie.

It would be interesting to know whole, true story on that car. They took all of the drivetrain out, right down to what was most likely a posi third member, and then put it all back together right down to the hubcaps before pushing it into the lake! Definitely something nefarious going on there....

Found this out in the middle of absolutely nowhere. Would have to do some logging to even get near it. There was also some misc model T parts scattered around it. Kind of an eerie feeling walking upon it in the middle of the bush....

here is a car that was left at a local blaster to be blasted. the guy never came and picked it up. so the crazy blaster had the car crusted a few years ago. 402012_369292629763442_1573461587_n.jpg 421853_369294169763288_1052708816_n.jpg 421954_369293436430028_718236881_n.jpg

That is Erie, or was that eerie? Unless it was near Lake Erie then it wouldn't have been in the middle of nowhere.
Actually it still couldn't have been nowhere since you were there and that was somewhere!

    Thanks for the photo.

Here is one of mine that I actually saved from the crusher 20 years ago. Now sitting and rotting...I will sell it eventually.

I would loved to found it as I could have used a bunch of parts from it when I was building mine.

My dad whose 63 now said he remembers people talking about multiple cars from the mid 50s to the mid 60s being dumped into Chilhowee Lake along with a ton of radioactive barrels from Alcoa and it was hushed up pretty quick. He told me one story of a couple kids who got drunk and drove a 56 or 57 Chevy off a bridge into that lake because they thought it would float:D awesome find though

I think it was a former company truck as I have actually seen another truck with the same paint scheme in the same local area.

Very true! I am surprised the paint isn't shiny from them scratching their asses on it LOL
