I thought for sure that the door with the gouge in it was going to give you fits. . . When I sectioned my pickup cab the back of the cab had similar damage, when i cut it out that panel went nuts... fuckin everything was out of wack. That thing gave me fits for days.

Your car looks good. Keep posting updates.

    its looking good.

the doors worked out good from haveing to fix the big dent

i sectioned the inner structure only, slid it up and hammered the door skin over the bottom edge, no welding in the middle of the door.

here a link the my shoebox build, still need to work on it again someday.

  12. I'm suprised no one posted the knee high ford that was at the last meet in PASO
I'm not sure how was removed but the stock tail light is about centered in the rear fender and the top of the doors were just above my knees

I love the Ron Dunn/ Valley Custom shoebox, but this one from John Kouw of Cruisin Customs is probably my favorite. I don"t know who it was built for but it's been done for about 20 years.

I think the car's owner is from south west Florida, but don't quote me. I've seen it quite a few times since about '04 - and it's very nice. Gary

thats what a buddy told me to do and it made sense.

no heat, just carefully hammered the edges back over, no problem, turned out pretty good.

Do you know if the car still exists??

  17. It has been a few days, weeks.

Hot Stuff arrived today from Dallas, dug me out of my garden and helped me in the garage. After I caught him up on my projects in person, I walked him through my next "plan". I picked up some 1949 Olds fenders last weekend for a song and they were super straight and rust free!

The plan was/is to cut the back of the fender off of each 49 fender.

Here they are laid out with cut lines...[IMG]

The plan is to use the back section of the original Ford fender to attach the Olds fender, since the Olds fender is longer behind the wheel we had plenty to trim, however, we left as much as possible knowing we could take more off easier then putting it back on.

    The left over:

We bolted the Ford piece on then clamped the Olds fender to it.

Here is in under the fender shot

Here you can see what needs to be trimmed.

  18. We had so much fun doing that............... I explained my idea of "Eyebrowing" (55 chevy style) my headlights. So I dug out the pieces of sheet metal that I radius'd out of the rear quarters, Todd took the sanding wheel too them and I ran them through the rolling bars.

Here is the right fender mocked up.

Then we started getting nutty thinking about the front end. I have three hoods, we pulled out the worst one and Todd started cutting....

Now it was time to do some more mock up dreaming.

That was it for the weekend on my car! I suspect Hot Stuff will keep me in the shop during the evenings this week!!

Funny........ I just found this pic on the Street Rodder page.... I like the head lights!

YEA man that is cool! There is nothing like a sectioned custom. It is the ultimate custom touch to a custom car that changes its attitude of the final look.It is a ton of work, that is why most dudes won't try it but well worth the effort in the end .I sectioned my Airflow 3 inches and glad I did. Yours is looking good.

  23. UPDATE:

Working on getting the running 389 Pontiac motor in the car, I took the "traditional" approach to modify the drag link. The Hurst way.........

There are old STP decals/stickers on the doors above the handle. They have become very faded and faint, pretty cool.

I took paper and pencil and created an impression of the decal

I gonna eat some crow here! 50 Olds fenders!.. I like it.

  28. Not from me..............I'm not an Olds guy.
How do you know the difference, 49,50,51....?

  29. Not Much Progress, but it is getting moved around for winter.

I've sized up the 389 in the chassis, motor mounts seem to be in.
The fuel pump wont fit though.
I reworked the rear cross member, I had to cut it and extend it to the rear so the trans would fit.

Hopefully things will start to progress soon. I'm off to the shop to get things cleaned up!
