I noticed some land being cleared out from an old hoarder in town. I was able to work my way in and buy some stuff before they got to it. What make is this little vintage Bantam body (shortened and narrowed)? I can still get this caddy limo, but it is gonna take some real work to get it out and it is roached. IMG_1261.JPG

Trim from the Cad could be worth something.

Yes. You called it. It's an Austin American coupe. They went belly up and the company became Bantam

Steering wheel and wheel covers are good to save from the caddy. What's under the hood?

Hopefully you took that Coke sign as well

  9. You may as well pick up as much as you can, sell what you don't need, that Caddy would part out pretty easy.

I'm in agreement that the Caddy would be a good part-out. If the drivetrain is still viable, that would be a great way to get the Bantam body going down the road and a pretty interesting build combo.

    Caddy POWERED and FUNDED Bantam?

I don't think that's a Bantam. It looks like a shortened four door of some kind. A Bantam has a shorter cowl and slanted windshield and doors.

The 30-31 Bantam does have a straight windshield, but that cowl just looks too long and the door bottom doesn't look curved like a Bantam.

No, it is a Bantam, they shortened the cowls for racing. The give away is the battery box and the big firewall hole, I have always wanted one for a land speed vehicle

If you look again you can see that most of that cowl is under the hood, when the hood is on it. You need that space for your legs, but the car looked out of proportion with such a short hood and long cowl. So they styled it to look better and hide the kick box.

You're right, RichFox! I'm so used to seeing them as drag cars with no hoods and shortened cowls, and original ones with hoods where you can't see the whole cowl !

  19. Good save, those most assuredly would have just gone in the scrap pile at the local crusher.

The A PU/T coupe door is worth a bit too, nice find.

Too bad you're not closer, I'd like an old, crusty tailgate as a wall hanger.

  22. Yep I was gfoing to say American Austin bantam. It would be a nice one to own for sure.

If we could have a HAMB meet where everybody got together, after a couple of beers the conversation would be astounding. Identifying an off beat orphan car by the length of the cowl on a field find, just amazing.
    BTW, strip the Caddie.

  25. I can picture you working your way in, that's classic.
It's like doing a vintage rescue.............
Good job, some good stuff you got.

Thus the origins of the limerick:

There was once a man from Boston
who went and bought him an Austin
he had room for his a** and a gallon of gas
but his b***s hung out so he lost 'em

I'll have you know that I am a past Austin owner and a current Bantam owner. Still got all my parts. Don't get to use them much.

X3 on this, this is what I've been thinking sense I saw this thread. A Caddy powered Bantam would make a pretty sweet little street roadster or Alterd

Also that cowl next to the Bantam looks like a '30 '31 Model A.

Power window switches, more than likely electric seat switches will do well on the open market.
