    That's awesome.
I kinda like the front end that it has now, but...
    Glad it still exists.

Awesome find, and pretty intact yet too, well deserving of a restoration. I'd be inclined to keep the old dash as-is and restore a new one to keep that old pinstripe work intact, or maybe just touch up that dash and run it in the restored truck. Very cool.

back in the late 50s these shoebox conversions were all the rage, always liked them! Thanks for bringing back some memories of pedaling my bike to the United Cigar store and getting the lastest "little books" as they hit the magazine racks.

Congrats - always good to know people that know people - right place at the right time - to find the build book before find is pretty wild

A car like this gets rediscovered and it's like balance is restored in our universe. It also keeps the faithful motivated to keep kicking down barn doors and following those endless bad leads.

Are the dual headlights staying or will the 57 chevy lights return, which I think it looks best with.

Fantastic find! That is one of my favorites from the fifties I always wondered what happened to it. I hope it is brought back to the original theme.

  21. It currently has a 390 FE motor under the hood ... but I assume they will be putting a flathead back in during the restoration.

Perhaps Tony (@Gomes) or Dennis (@Rod and Wheeler) can confirm?

What a terrific find! One of the best pickup conversions ever done. The builder hit the mark on the chop, rear "cab" roof, tailgate and lights, etc. Very tasteful. Most of them turn out quite bad.
Looks like the bodywork was finished in lead?

Glad to hear it's going back to what it was. Hopefully that includes getting rid of the second set of "eyes".

I grew up with Dennis Gomes (Rod & Wheeler) in Santa Clara, knew him since '54. He has done some monumental cars, (and owned more Carson-topped '41-'48 customs than anybody I know!)
His son Tony is universally respected in the glass trade, highly recommended for 'special jobs'.
Just the right pair to converge on a find of this magnitude.
Impressed? I'm 'numb'. Great episode here... Go great guns, guys!

Great find. I would like to hear the story on how the father happened to run across the photo album of the build.

  27. I can't wait to see it when it's done, he asked me if I wanted to see something cool when I dropped off my windshield frame to have glass cut for it a few months ago. I was not disappointed.

I have a soft spot for this post Jive-Bomber. My first car/truck was this 56 Ford originally purchased used without a trunk and it had a broken rear window. My dad cut notches in the top and folded it down with an acetylene torch. I painted it in high school shop class. People guessed '56 Ranchero all the time. BO
