002.JPG The side panels need to conform to the headliner better.

The original door panels had carpet on that lower area. Chris missed it and so did I when I picked it up. Dang these details!

010 (2).JPG 012.JPG Good news/bad news. The trimmer is done, it looks veeeeerrrry nice. I can see out the windshield for the first time. I couldn't pick it up tonight, he won't be open tomorrow, so I have to wait for Monday.

Did I ever tell you about the spotlight handle's?

  13. You can't leave us hanging now! I need to make a set for my Merc, but I'd like to see how you ended up with handles from blocks. ;)

PA230159-vi[1].jpg This is the only pic (that I know of) that really shows what the handle's look like, thanks to Rik Hoving.

002.JPG 001 (3).JPG 001 (3).JPG Unfortunately I haven't assembled the (in the ruff) pics for this like the knobs, but we will press on, and I'm sure you'll get it.

This shows what we have to deal with regarding the various components to this part of the project.

007 (2).JPG A hole must be drilled thru the block, excess material needs to be removed. I ruff out the pear shape on my bench grinder, then use my hand held grinder with a cut down 40 grit disc, and finish up with finer and finer grades of paper on my da.

  21. Jerry, did you make the end of the hole at the small end square to engage the shaft or just a round hole all the way through? If you did it square, how did you do it?

002 (3).JPG The problem is solved by a tool that every well equipped machine shop has in their tool box these days, a "square" drill bit. An ingenious device that was invented during WWII to streamline some critical operations on the machines that helped produce tracked vehicles.

Ok, I couldn't resist making contact with a well placed softball that was just hanging there. Thanks Doc. I could have used that square portion of the spotlight mechanics for the twist/turn motion that aims the spotlight itself. It would mean that if I drilled a shallow enough hole that would leave room for that heated up part to seat itself as I screwed everything together it would give me the leverage that I would need. I chose not to. Since the spotlights are mainly ornamental I can postion that part by hand outside the vehicle.

    Baby's back.

343.JPG 343.JPG 344.JPG 345.JPG It was better to have Don redo these than make new ones. They still need to be handled with kids gloves.

Well I need to keep this from getting too boring. With an advanced case of CRS getting everything together requires patience and a plan b always at the ready. With two weeks before "the big shew" everything is looking good. I have a new seal in the vent hole, and cleaned up the part that you rarely ever see.

  28. That makes sense and is much easier than making a square hole. I was following all along with you about the square drill bit (having seen the ones for wood posted above) amazed that the corners of those wood bits cut into the plastic. LOL

  29. thanks for sharing Jer, looking great sir !
