Thanks for that good information Jon.
I have Pete's book and find it invaluable in my restoration of my SD.

Carter did not build the three barrel with dual accelerator pumps, nor with the extension secondary jets found on some other 4-barrels. Long ago, I acquired the original prints from Carter. This is NOT to say one was not modified by some enthusiast. Top view of the three-barrel 3636s is below

Later, Carter did build an AFB with what many call two accelerator pumps for Lincoln; but the second "accelerator pump" is actually an internal dashpot a.k.a. slow-closing throttle control. There was an early version (Carter 64-196s) and a refined version (64-333s). I actually manufacture these dashpots for the Lincoln crowd.

I have a dual squirter system. I never heard of or seen one before I bought this one.
    Want photos?

Yes, I would like to see how it was done. I believe Autolite had one on the Ford K 289 carburetor.

Friend of mine just bought this frame from PJ to put under a 63 SD car that he is restoring. He has 2 63 SD's and a 62 SD. He also had a 62 Grand Prix SD one of 16 and one of 3 known left. IMG_20141026_125357.jpg Have witnessed him running this one hard on e-towns 1/8. Original sd with aluminum nose and bumpers in as raced condition. Last time I talked to him it was staying this way.

I believe the aluminum components for the SDs were bought ala cart.

Memory tends to not be as good as it once was, but I seem to remember Selden had three of the aluminum frames when I visited with him so many years ago.

He may have. He had some collection of SDs and parts before they were anything but a Racecar.

Visited with Selden approximately 1980. I had just bought a truck load of Pontiac literature when the Jefferson City Missouri dealership had to move because of urban flood control. As I remember, Selden had either a 1958 or 1959 Pontiac as well as the SD's and I traded him a set of the dealer television spots for something. Selden was running one of the SD's at the time, and disappointed with the results. He showed me the engine, with a pair of 660 Holleys on top!!! I asked him why, and he said he couldn't find the Carters. Long story shorter, I supplied and built him a pair of the Carters. First time out, he tore up something (U-joint, I think). Next time out, he dropped his ET by almost a full second! As far as I know, that was his last Holley. He ran AFB's after that. Funny how the factory engineers sometimes know what they are doing!

Fun thread on some really under-appreciated iron (and aluminum).

Jeff Redhage posts a lot pics of Seldens cars on facebook. I think Jeffs father use to drive for Seldon.

You might very well be right , Jon. I was under the impression it was the only one, maybe someone can weigh in on this.

This thread has brought up a memory of a car I remember as a youth, another GTO, this one a '66, with a 421 equipped with a single 3bbl. I will have to ask some friends if that was an SD. Yessir, it was a pretty and fast car. 1974.

  19. could you get 2x4s in 1961? there is a beautiful 61 ventura bubble top in the Pontiac museum in Pontiac, Ill. Its the same color as member 1961Poncho avatar. I think it said it was 389 which would be correct but it had 2x4s. I asked the guy working there but he didn't know, they are all just volunteers.
One minor thing nobody mentioned was all the SDs had deep groove pulleys. I used to read about SDs in musclecar review and High performance Pontiac but I recently sold all of them on ebay. I do remember a couple of brothers in the early 80s were buying up all aluminum and SD parts and cars. They were racing the Royal 63 swiss cheese car then before it was restored. I remember the article talked about the aluminum frame they had. Don't remember what their names were.

Existed? Yes, but genuine Holley? No. It's been years but I still have this secondary pump shooter and gear drive secondary kit from a 3916 3 bbl I ran. To my knowledge Holley never produced a squirter like this, it was sold by Segal (been a long time, but I think that's who it was) Automotive and needed the Holley 50 CC accelerator pump kit to have enough volume.

What you are " holding in my hand " is a holley 3 barrel ,Not a carter 3 barrel that Jon is talking about. ( not the same apple or orange !! )

  29. OK just to make you happy. I love that big block Pontiac. :D

I have worked on a couple of them but I can't say that I really know much about them other then they are a 4 stroke engine and they make good zot. As for the particulars there are people on the HAMB way more versed in numbers and combinations than I am. Even if I found one for sale I would have to do my research before putting coin on the table.

That said if someone has one that they are willing to invest in the beaner having a good time my A bone could run one of those just as easily as my small block. ;)
