This is a funny observation, I get weirded out by those dolls too. It's a bit like the women who carry lifelike baby dolls around as if they are alive (psychological disorder), can someone explain the dolls at car shows please? It has some truth, but I kinda disagree. I would rather build a Coupe, but I need 4 seats so I would do the Vicky. Do they make cool rods?
Mr48chav has it right, but no surprise that the most important Vicky trait can be ignored, the perils of a heavy wood sill body. Condition of the coachwork becomes doubly important. The coupe is one of Ford's high production bodies where much of the wood is replaced by metal. Not a trait to be discounted if completing the project is important. We're surrounded by artists who envision what's cool. We see cool coupes too, that make it to the road because someone luckily started with a sensible and proven choice of bodies. Good Luck: Fred A
do you have kids? want to take friends out for a ride? if so, build the Vicky. I built my sedan so I can take my adult kids along, I get more use out the car with a back seat. I don't know too many men that will ride in the rumble seat.
I agree- If you can't end up with a decent hotrod from a Vicky then leave the Vicky for those that can and just build the coupe.
There is no right or wrong answer here, its how you intend to use it and what you like best. I don't let how many are built or what you might see at a show determine what I want to drive.
COUPE. Much rather have a Tudor or especially a pickup than a Vicky. Sad as it is, I'd probably build a pickup before a coupe cause I like the utility of trucks. Seen some beautiful trucks on here.
How big / tall are you ? vicky doors are 5" longer than the S/W fordor, fordors are very close to the coupe which are 27.5" long... but the coupe is all steel... the vicky had a wooden cage the tin nailed to, and the subfloor was also wood... imo... ford never finished off the outside header on the vic... ugly... but he did give the 'ol girl a factory top chop...
Wish I knew they were just parade cars before I wasted so much time on this turd. How bout a heads up next time people. Is a lot of wood in these and probably part of why there are so few left. Building a coupe would be way easier and cheaper but would it be cooler? Up to you to decide. Wasn't dead set myself but found what I could and ran with it.
Sorry, have to disagree. Love coupes, but they're a dime a dozen. A Victoria on the other hand, is a classy bodystyle that makes an exceptional hot rod. It just looks right IMO. Not that coupes do not look right as a hot rod, it is just a less refined look. Must be that "fat ass" that does it for me. To each his own. Sent from my iPhone using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
Vicky, coupes are so abundant. Go with the road less traveled. Sent from my XT1585 using The H.A.M.B. mobile app
What I am trying to determine is: I have a very good coupester body that I bought a top for and will have to weld it on. I have been looking at a Vicky body that is the leather back type and the top is in pretty bad shape with rust. The cowl and doors look good but need some bottom patches. The back bottom is pretty good. Of course there is no wood so the floors, etc will have to be fabricated or bought. We have not agreed on a trade yet. There will be a LOT less work getting the coupe body ready but I have always liked Vickys. I hate to give up my coupe though.
The Vicky body is practically light years ahead of the other model A s. Slant windshield Factory chop Flush fitting doors Recessed floor BIG doors If you're more of a fine carpenter than a welder - then redo the wood. If you're more fabricator than wood butcher -then replace the wood with steel. Neither one is too difficult if you stick to your skill set.
