Yup I'll have to dig up some pix from the Hudson national Meet in Jersey back in 95. I'm pretty sure the car was there

I sold it before I ever got aroung to running it at the track. I apologize in advance for the small block chevy.

The two tone brown sedan pictured at Bonneville runs a Ford flathead. There is a group of guys from the NW coast who run a 308 lakester that holds several records on the salt. His car number is 308.

    WHOA!
And skirts, even. A Hudson lover's dream pic here!

BTW, anybody got any hard facts about the dead-stock performance
of the Jet? Since the 201 had an even longer stroke than the 308, I'd
be curious to know of any performance test results on that model, fac-
tory. I've been told it performed pretty well, but no numbers or eye-
witness accounts to back that up.

Marshall Teague's Hornet, originally posted on the thread,
"Hudson 308 Hudson 6 for Early Rods?" There's a ton of
Hudson hi-perf tech info on there; worthwhile to at least
    scan through, 14 pages.

the truck was owned by Press Kale who ran K-Gap (made rubber trim and other pieces for Hudsons). don't know if its still around or not. pulling his Hudson drag racer. sure he had a 308 Hornet engine in the truck!

Not Hudson powered but still Hudsons. Dads 49 has been as quick as 9.96 in the quarter. My 47 has gone 9.79

Hot Rod had an article about Jack Clifford's national record holder. Maybe Jul or Aug '63, if I recall correctly.

runs high 11's in the quarter mile and mid 7's in the 1/8... Yes its a bad a$$... owned and built by the Hudson Guru, Randy Maas in Illinois.
Randy is the man to get high performance hard core Hudson parts from these days like cams, valvetrain and knows how to port polish & relieve these old beast like no one else. without his help and knowledge Hudson drag racers today would have to relearn all of this over again.

one that's a little different... from Australia a Gibbons-Binks equipped 308 Hornet engine in a boat... complete with a supercharger! bet this thing sounds mean as hell :p
also attached pictures of the two piece head and intake. rumor has it that Clifford coppied the head and made it a one piece casting. both look so similar that this rumor must be true...

I think it's a fascinating fact that, as the high-performance era dawned, an L-head six ran with -- or bested -- anything on the road or track, for several years! And that was the age of the Rocket 88, Caddy OHV 331 and the Chrysler Firepower Hemi, too!

Too bad there was no, "And now, for my NEXT trick!" Just Hudson's last blaze of glory. This thread is evidence that there are plenty of stalwarts who'll never forget a real piece of auto hi-perf history!

yes it is a shame that Hudson never developed their own "modern" V8 to keep the fire burning as hot as the flathead 6 did.
attached are some pictures of my next Hudson powered drag racer. its a 64 Studebaker Commander 2dr sedan with a 328 cubic inch Hornet engine with twin corvair turbos. Everything on the car is 1965 or earlier except for safety equipment.

That gives me a little more motivation - I'm SERIOUSLY considering building my 308 to put in my new Model A roadster. It would be pretty unexpected... anyone ever seen such a thing?
I don't know who would be more pissed - the Ford guys or the Hudson guys.

Wonder what the weight distribution is on that rail? Note the Unistrut brackets. Don't know how it would drive, has it run at all?

I think the Hudson guys would love the idea, I know I do. Its always good to see something different, so I say go for it.
That dragster is a great example, what a piece of work, would love to hear it run.

  28. Yes, it was Press Kale's truck. It was never Hornet-powered however. Press had installed a Cadillac 500'' motor and trans. The truck was sold to a fellow in the Northeast - maybe Pennsylvania? Pic is of the new owner filling up the fuel tank to feed the Caddy.

  29. Speaking of racing Hudson products, what about BEFORE drag racing was invented?

How about this 4cylinder Essex speedster charging down a stone road? The Essex 4s were extremely quick for their day.

The posed profile shot is not the same speedster but another E4.
