For those of you who have never heard of the "Egyptain", AKA Don Boeke, Open House was today. He's a world famous Pin-Head, Painter, Car builder... Very Rarely does anybody get to get in and see his stuff, So I jumped @ the chance to see.....
Wish I could of made down there. When I was younger he was the one that everyone talked about when it came time for having your hot rod or custom car painted. Thanks for the pics
That '57 Ford with chrysler headlights and Desoto grille is an old custom from the late 50's or early 60's i think. I think I remember seeing it in a grille and headlight treatment book... Very cool!
Been sitting for quite awhile....But it can and will run..... If you remember, The "Egyptian" Had the world famous "Grasshopper" sitting right next to the Roach Coach" until Alexander Bros. Bought it back a couple years ago....
Don's the best, he's done it all for the last 50 years. Did he ever sell any car?? Wish I could have been there.
sold the Grasshopper back to Alexander Brothers...Rest is still sittin around In a HUGE Warehouse....
Don was/is from Dayton, Ohio and in the exact same group of young "car-nuts" such as Daryl Mayhab, Dave Middleton, Jack Holt, George Montgomery (earlier) and I like to include myself in that group as I have "passed along" over 4,000 old cars mainly found in and around my home town of Dayton. Some trivia on Don....did you know he once owned a T-Shirt retail store named "The Brick-Shirthouse" (my daughter worked there). He almost ran away with and eloped with "Anette"......YES, THE ANETTE Funichello! He may not talk about it? Wish I could have been there Don, see you at "The Greens" some Friday when I'm in Ohio again. Your '33 Roadster is my dream car. I'm getting close on my '57 T-Bird "Battlebird". Tom Kitchen
hey tom, i see you are in florida now.wondered what happened to you? long time ,no see. bob oney i was at dons yesterday, what a neat display of some great stuff by a great host. it was a real treat!!
My buddy was there and sent a text picture of a sweet woody in the shop. Looked like a great time, and what an awesome green early vette!
Don is a real sweetie. I feel honored to have had the opportunity to visit his shop/garage/home in the past. I wish I would have known everyone was going to hang out there I would have driven down for the day,
Thanks for the tour of his shop. I like the green Ford gasser looks to be a '56 love it. The T-Bird I think was at the "Dayton Concours d'Elegance" last year, at Carillon Park. Awsome car.
Thanks for posting the pictures of the shop tour.I wish I could have made it down but I had to letter a vintage milk truck. I have had the pleasure of knowing Don for about 15 years and have been to the shop and his home several times and it is always a treat.Don is an all around great guy and artist.
We bought our 1947 Merc. convertible thru Don. Hella of a nice guy, with great talents. Bob-Hampshire, Illinois
Mayabb and Don were always friends and we all were at a 50th reunion of the opening of our High School (Belmont) a few years ago and were asked to bring any "period cars" we had. I brought my '57 Ford "Fireball" Roberts Tribute/Replica car (can Google Circle Track article on it). FUN side story; at the dinner the speaker asked if anyone knew of anyone that had a picture of Daryl Mayhabbs' first car ('39 Chev Sedan) could they contact him as it was the only car he owned he did not have a picture. I held up my hand and said that I had bought the car from Daryl AND I had a picture of it with me. It was lettered (by Daryl) as "Little Honey-Pot". I thought Daryl was going to walk over tables to get to me! It was in my HS album of cars and Daryl was overjoyed. I hear its in a prominent place in his studio. I visited him in Co. but would love to have an invite to Utah. This is about Don, but Daryl will have to tell the story about his FIRST pinstriping job on "Fat-Jacks" '55 Chev. He dubbed it "Chicken'-Scratching". We all have come a LONG way since the '50s/'60s! Tom
