  1. Converting a Model A rear axle to open drive is more complex (and expensive) than a 35-48 rear. This is because the drive shaft and the differential pinion gear are one piece. The later axles will handle more horse power as well.

    A 47 Ford truck rear is already open drive and should take the big six no problem.
