I was at Nats North today in Kalamazoo and Gearhead World had rails and a model A cross member for $450. They were in a crate so I could not really see them. Anyone know if they are any good?

Sounds too good to be true, but they sell lots of parts for less.

    Beware of Gear Head World

  4. Who else is stamping rails ?
That's 800.00 plus shipping worth of stuff.
And at 450.00 they are gonna open the crate for me

  5. ASC, JW Garage, and Shadow Rods American made 32 repop rails are going for about $700 right now. When a reputable builder starts using Gear Head rails I'll take them seriously. Otherwise, I'm inclined to pass.

The rails were full length, one piece. All holes etc were in them. I did see that they did not have the extra plates that go in the back where the spreader bar bolts in.

I'd say grab 'em. Just the fact that they are there and so are you. Go for it.

Given a choice, make mine a pair of rails from American Stamping @ Olive Branch, Mississippi --- the benchmark by which all others are measured, (except Henry's). Can be had with bells and whistles. Confucius say, cost minor compared to quality --- you live with mistake like man live with wife. Make mistake, hard to change. Those who have been around know a Hot Rod that is not square is no dream but an endless nightmare. You pays your money and takes you chances on something made across the waters. Certainly not traditional USA Made, and like old Southern expression: You can sleep with a whore but can't brag about it.

Building a Hot Rod isn't cheap, but in the grand scheme and total cost, $250 potentially saved isn't going to to be that much. I'd say stick with the US made, and keep our presses chunking away.

ASC rails appear to be the best, they fit right in my jig ( made from a real henry one) JW's bolt holes were off ( longer) by about 3/8"

fortynut pretty much said it all. I have ASC rails under my Highboy and they are STRAIGHT. Keep it in America, Bud. The center section from Karl Fjastad rounded out the lower portion. A few hundred more for the base of your Hotrod is well worth it. Start straight, stay straight.

DeuceFrame.com is his site. You may wait a long time to get his product but he does very high quality work. I have used four of his center sections with ASC rails.

Buy some clean fresh oats, that's one price.
Buy some oats that have already been through the horse, that's another price.

Are you 100% sure they were '32 style rails? Being that much less than the going rate for American made rails, it makes me wonder if they were a Model A repop rail? ...If there is even such a thing?
