This has to be one rare truck. I have never seen one before. Any one else know any thing about them? This a one on custom build or what?
Nash was America's largest manufacturer of trucks in 1946. Betcha didn't know that. I'm doubting that cab is a factory job, but then again...!
Patrick 66 : Nash largest truck builder in 46 ??? As a ex-old truck collector the only truck that Nash built post WW II was a short run of tow trucks that were almost entirely sold to Nash dealers. That thing is a custom job for sure!!!!
a link to some of Nash history, looks like in 1918 they were the big dogs in truck production... http://southernclassic.tripod.com/id21.html
OK, my little typo there. Let's try 1916 to 1918, instead! This includes Jeffery trucks, too. Same company.
Read the whole post, you'll see the correction. Far as 1946 goes, here is a paragraph I found on post-war Nash trucks, since that thing above is built from something Nash...Linkys as posted do not link. After World War II, however, Nash Motors re-entered the commercial arena, with a line of "Haul Thrift" trucks, mostly for export. The trucks used front sheet metal modified from the 1947-8 Nash Ambassador, like the one in which Cannonball Baker paced the 1947 Indy 500. A brief run of short-wheelbase chassis was fitted with Ashton wrecker bodies and issued to Nash dealers. A few of them are still around. The export trucks generally had much longer wheelbases. Plus, it looks like it was built from a '53 or '54 Ambassador, judging from the grille and headlights. The roofline, front bumper, and the windshield are identical, too. The fenders were simply cut to appear as they do, as was the hood. Lots of work for something not very pretty...Gotta admit, it's unique. it was real i posted it, i have seen other pictures of them, my buddy that no's nothing about car's has a idea were one is in michigan.
Not saying it's not real, I'm saying it isn't something Nash would've built from the factory. They were out of the truck business by that time, and the merger with Hudson occurred in May 1954, so they were NOT wasting time with stuff like this. It belongs to a couple in WA State, here is a link to their MH and their other Nashes: http://www.umrrncca.com/id43.htm
--------------------------------- That is weird and ugly! I really like weird and ugly!!!! Mart3406 ============================
Man...those Tow trucks are good looking rigs. Nash shoulda concentrated more on trucks...they might still be around!
