Projects My Spurgin/Giovanine inspired 1925 Chev roadster build thread

Discussion in 'Traditional Hot Rods' started by Jimmy B, May 2, 2010.

  1. Great to see the progress, now that you've driven Chester's car, you will find alot of similarity with your car, and certainly offer you both inspiration and direction.

Looking great, will be a fun car, that is full of soul, hook in,

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

  2. Hey Glenn, I am glad it didn't sell, it should be on the road this year

Thanks. Progress is halted on the new roadster until this one is done

the Holden is 115ci 1.9 litres

Yep, Karma always comes around, he will get his!

It was such a great car to drive and as you say lots of similarities between the two. Can't wait for the first drive.

I know, right? I would be like "hey, I gotta cut this frame up," And someone says, "Well lets find a plasma cutter," and I would be all like "Nah, I just need to find my scissors."

Your project is coming along gangbusters J B.

    aiming for rccrc2?

    Will you keep it LHD?

  9. Thanks Mark, yeah getting alot done most of it is just finishing stuff off. I am shooting to have it finished in August/September as that will mark 6 years of working on it.

I definitely like to be at the second run for sure.

    Yes it will be LHD.

Thanks for the up date. It is motivating! I found a rolling chassis for my '26 but it's pricy and 3,000 miles away. It would sure save a lot of time though. If I can not swing it I'll turn someone on the east coast on to it. Hey an 8' python can eat whatever it wants to.

I hope these engine mounts are only temporary. The geometry needs be improved. Rear plate needs to be one piece and perpendicular to frame. Possible thicker plate needs to be used. I suggest you check out some engine mounts from Pete and Jakes for ideas.

Welds look good though, and I like the way you car looks. keep it up, safety first.

    In my opinion

  12. Mink, they need to be boxed they will be plenty strong once done. Also it is a small 4 banger half the weight of a V8.

  13. I stored my old roadster in a shed on my parent's farm, only to have some vermin mice make a happy home and breed in the trim.....introduce a carpet python, never found another mice or rat, and scared the crap out of everyone who entered the shed who didn't know it was there....;):D

Boxed, and done, move onto the other side.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:D

  14. Carpet Python's are great pest control. We have a drop snake here, roll the roll-a-door up and an 7 foot python drops down :eek: Poor bugger is only warming itself then it is really pissed.

I was just thinking that the RCCRC run must have been excellent inspiration to "thrash" for next year. Lookin' good mate!

  16. Hey Jimmy someone messed up that red motor and swiped to pots.... :D

Good to see you getting back into it, I'm guessing you got a chunk of motivation after spending a day behind the wheel. To be expected really! Sure is fun driving them...

  17. G'day Nic, Yep it was a truly fantastic event, I am looking to have this on the road by August-September.

We need to catch up sometime.

I know, luckily I got it for free, otherwise I would of felt robbed :D

It is good to get back on it. Yep, absolutely correct driving a roadster is the perfect motivation.

  18. Made a dash panel, needs more work on the corners, I still need to make the flange that bolts to the cowl. I will gas weld the 2 pieces together

  19. Update on the least important build on the HAMB.

I got the idea to fit the Torana Speedo into a old Smiths speedo housing I had.

whats not to like about this build.

    1. building a hot rod....not a farm truck or sedan
    2. doing it yourself, from scratch, and sharing the progress
    3. tribute to an early pioneering car
    4. using what you have
    5. snakes

in my books, you sir, are a true hot rodder.

Jimmy B, How is your roadster coming along? Is the Holden running. I just went through this thread again. Thank you for all the great pictures. I have spent a month cleaning my shop and sorting parts so I can finally begin mine. I got a '29 Chevy rolling chassis for the frame. The S/G roadster along with yours will help me plan mine. I am keeping the Chevy front springs like an earlier version of the S/G car. I think I'll use 1/4 elliptics on the back.

Start again. I still have more cutting to do. :(

I have been collecting parts to build a closer representation of the Spurgin/Giovanine roadster.

I had some 4mm folded into C channel to '25 Chev dimensions Built this chassis out with aid of my rusted original.

Thanks for the update, Jimmy. It's always nice to get a little Chevy 4 action on the board.
