Just read the whole thread and glad to see the new owner has taken the car in the direction HE wanted to go. It always amazes me some of the posts get just this side of threatening when the $$$$'s are coming out of someone elses pocket. I congratulate the owner for offering up the car before pursuing his vision. A class way to quell controversy.
The car already looks a ton better and I hope he keeps posting any further progress.

  5. I think the word that best sums up this thread is "passion" and that's a good thing. Those who agree with the direction this "re-build" is taking and those who disagree are both passionate in their feelings and the disagreements have been generally cordial. I think it bodes well for this hobby.

  9. Sam, I like everything you have done on the roadster....I just got a 32 3window that was an old hot rod from back in the 50's and it was channeled also. It is on it's way back up to orignal location on top the frame. I too fought with myself to rase or leave alone. But after seeing the big change for the better in your build it was a no brainer...Thanks

I don't comment much on here but l too recently bought an old channeled roadster project (not a complete car) and thought about keeping some of its history and even had a chance to buy almost all the parts to make it as it was from the origional owner but decided to do exactly what you're doing...make it my own.
Your way is going to be bad ass!!

....now some more progress pictures please!!

I don't like myself, no one else does either!!

    Guys...
I appreciate all the encouragement and will have updated pics soon. I have been covered up with work and have been in the process of buying a 32 parts stash that I have been trying to get for years. Should have time to get back on the roadster in the next little bit. By the way, I don't regret unchanneling her one damn bit...

    Sam,
I just found this thread, I remember you telling me about it when I was there getting the 33 from you. I just read the whole thing and have been laughing my ass off for the last hour and a half. I love how Some guys want to tell someone else what they should or shouldn't do with a car that they don't Own. I myself have been in your shoes and got hate mail and all kinds of nasty remarks because of what I planned to do with cars that I bought and payed my hard earned money for. None of them guys would like it if you or I went to their garage and started telling them how to build their cars. My hats off to you for keeping your cool through this whole thread. Bottomline is I have met you in person And know you are a All around Good Guy and have a heavy passion for these cars, And from what I seen in your shop, You have a great eye for traditional hot rods. And I am glad you are building this the way you want it, As regardless of what anybody here thinks, Your the only one who needs to be happy with this car. And like you said anyone who wanted to preserve this goofy looking car, Had their chance to buy it at the show, And you was even good enough to offer it up again after the haters started telling you how to build your own car. I look forward to seeing this car done. One thing is for sure You are improving it.

I'm sure there are others but i'm curious as to any progress you've been able to make getting this one ready for the road. We are an impatient bunch.

    definitely not the same car.

  17. Unless the car has a significant history as-is, don't worry about putting your mark on it like the first hot-rodder did . There is no wrong choice here going either way. There are plenty of stock and channeled roadsters out there for the nostalgia buffs to admire. I had to live with a deeply channeled roadster too, with its thin uncomfortable seats, and finally sold it on (to a much shorter person). It gets old fast when you're over 6' tall, climbing in and out was a real pain (at my age)!

  21. So glad you decided to do what YOU wanted. Not every car built "back in the day" is worth keeping. I tried and tried and tried to look at that car as objectively as I could. My dad, and grandfather even had eyes on it. None of us, could understand why all the fuss, with what your decision meant to the world. That car was awesome just because it wasn't messed with, but having said that...sure didn't make it attractive today or then. My grandfather had a 40 Ford out of Grandview West Virginia. Black Diamond was its name. Chrome, white web stripe treatments, reverse wheels, push bars, white tuck and roll. Made a few issues here and there back in the day. You could park that car forty years and it would still be cool. My non-HAMB Torino had etched glass on every panel. Big nasty, meso American type sheet. It was parked 30 years, and hell no, was not cool...when I found it. Someone out there may have wanted it, sure as heck wasn't me. I'm just a troll here. Checking out some amazing people, and more so....some incredible cars. I love your tastes, and I love your cars. Not all of these relics get to be so lucky in life, but I think yours stumbled into just the right guy's hands. I can't wait to see what it looks like next. Congratulations on your find.

You're making great progress on YOUR Roadster! I wonder how many of the negative posters have ridden in a channeled '32, it's not very comfortable, you end up sitting on the floor. Looks like you enjoy driving your hot rods and I commend you on your build. Hope to see the finish soon.

  25. Happy Halloween !!! Are the aliens done with you yet ? Don't let them scare you away from the updates, man. Let's see how cool it looks today.

    Sorry guys...
No alien abductions to speak of, cars are all safe & sound. I got sidetracked with work and other projects this year. I accumulated a nice original running chassis, then got a good deal on a Brookville roadster body so figured I could assemble a super traditional roadster pretty quick. That snowballed and I ended up trading it for a 3w this last weekend. The roadster is safe and sound, and I hope to have her done by spring...new pics soon I promise...

  30. People are afraid of Ebola but the dreaded Deuce Disease is a far more insidious affliction with no known cure that enslaves its poor victim to the endless pursuit of Henry's finest. Sam appears to have the full blown version, disappearing for months at a time searching for the Holy Grail, only to reappear with another Deuce! Congratulations brother!
