Since I received such a good responce to the first pics of the little car I've been building for my daughter, for those that missed the first thread http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/showthread.php?t=231166 I thought I'd show what I've done since christmas, well this week really as I've not been able to work on it due to her playing with it. Had a bit of time this week so started on the exhaust. I wanted to have zoomie style pipes (think that's what they're called) but also wanted to have them working and not just stuck out the side of the fake motor/pedal box. So I've made a pipe from the single cylinder motor that sits in the middle of the car and taken it forward, split into two and up the inside front of the fake motor. It then goes to the heads and a log manifold and out to the zoomies. I'll make a heat shield for the inside and although her feet will get warm they'll not get burnt. Also got the wireing sorted and only need to loom it nicely and tidy up a few lose ends. Got it running as well and it sounds fine through the pipes. In the wireing I've included a remote stop so it can be switch off 100 yards away and the upside to this is it includes an alarm and a remote starter, been playing with that a lot today, should have been tidying wireing, but it's much more fun to keep firering it up from the other side of the workshop. Sorry the pics aren't great, forgot my camera and had to take them with my phone. Included a couple of pics without it's body so the chassis details can be seen.
I'm gona have to quit looking at that little booger. It gets more impressive with everything you do to it. It is simply bitchin, period! You are the man!
thanks for the update. This thing almost makes me want to have a kid so I can build something like it
That thing is soooo cool! You are one crazy dude. Remote start?!! ... and exhaust connected to the zoomies? unreal. Malcolm
Thanks again for the good comments. It has a 110cc four stroke single with auto box and electric starter from a small quad bike. I will paint the body at some time but for now I'm gonna leave it in ally with some signing and gold leaf. It wasn't built to promote what I can do but I think it'll serve as good PR for a year or so. You might be right, but it would be cool eh?
Nutrocker rocks!! That is one of the finest pieces of craftsmanship I've seen in a while. Very cool. I wish you were my Dad!!
Amazing work!!! That is so f-ing cool!!! I am pretty sure i could get used to calling you dad!!! Very Nice!
Hey guys, been in the shed again this week and done a bit more to the tot rod. Started by making up a gas pedal. It looks a little complicated but I wanted it to be modular so I can move it as she gets bigger and I also needed to have the cable come in from the top. I've started to make the cover for the motor, the first bit is now part of the seat and it covers the motor from the firewall back. The front part of the cover will be part of the fake engine, still to be made.
That's completely over the top. The workmanship is beautiful too. Exactly as it all should be. Heroic!
Man, when I lived in NYC, my ex and I went to FAO Swartz toy store. Doing the tourist thing for a day. They were selling little electric powered Mercedes 500 SL's for the wealthy kids to ride in for big bucks. I wonder how much they'ed want for something that was REALLY badass!? Awesome work. You just crushed every good memory of toys I had as a kid.
That throttle pedal is pure sex in metal. When I saw your first post it made me think of a little cart that was at the Hot Rod Reunion in Columbus,Oh this year. I snapped a few pics of it. I'm thinking it's body was fiberglass though.
Hey pete! Great car, but can a make a suggestion about the motor? Put this in it! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N8TXMUaC9Os&feature=channel_page
