Getting Mr. Chevy's hauler back on the road has been a two year project. I had a thread here somewhere that eludes me now so I will start a new post. When I started this project my first deadline was a year away, hey, what's complicated about restoring a '55 Chevy big bolt, right? The truck was totaled in 1976 and sat neglected for 36 years. One thing leads to another and the damage was not fully discovered until there was a bare frame with pieces scattered over several buildings. I had been driving the truck for a couple months now but only last week did I finish it with the side panels. The gasser will be hauled in an enclosed trailer but I have had it on the truck and driven it some highway miles loaded. I kept the 235 and original drivetrain because that is historical to this truck. It will drive interstate speeds but it gets loud as hell above 60. (The exhaust is straight through 3" stacks.) The original builder had straight exhaust through twin stacks. Lots more stories and pictures on my website.

it's great to see it finally done! Love the old haulers....I just got home from Drag Week, I hauled my Chevy II out to Tulsa and back with my 57 Suburban, on an old two axle flatbed trailer.

  12. That brings back a lot of memories of the glory days of the past.

We saw a lot of haulers around this area back in the 60's.

    Looks great! HRP

Great rig and 55. It will make everyone happy to see it pull up. Glad you kept the 235. Put up some more shots when you have a chance! Thanks. TEB

Here's what I started with over two years ago. I had no idea the work involved or how long it would take.

  27. Man....your website is stellar. The racer is equally same......how lucky are you? More so, it appears both it, and that truck hit jackpot....with having you. Nice truck. I love re-dos that mean being able to eat off the backside of......any damn part you choose. After viewing your history of the 55 gasser....that original race hauler deserved to meet the fate you gave it. Unbelievable. Same racer, same hauler. Boy, they sure often then not....don't end up like yours did. Fukn Yahtzee !! You win. They definitely win.......and gasser archaeology at its best. Your house.
