    Hello guys.

I have been offered a cheap `31 Chevrolet chassis, and a cheap Ford T body. Is there anyone who has built any similar together before? Or is it a stupid idea? If it exists, I would like to see pictures of how it might end. Maybe some one made a Ford A on Chevy chassis???

    Regards Andreas from Denmark

    :cool:Keep on hot rodding:cool:

  2. Considering you are in Denmark and the older parts are not found every day you could probably fabricate the frame to accept the T body. HRP

It's not a stupid idea at all. It will just require careful consideration of the way you modify things to make a combo that works well visually. IIRC some of the earliest Model T 3 springers and Modifieds used frames from manufacturers other than Ford. This fear of combining major parts from a variety of different sources (unless its the aftermarket! LoL)that seems to dominate current building, was not a concern back in the day!

No we can´t just go "around the block" and find cool hot rod stuff. Everything is possible, but maybe it´s not worth it. Thats why some pictures would be awesome.

The plan in my head is that it would be cool to build a cheap very oldschool hot rod. Like the idea of use what you have or can find in the junkyard, the oldschool way.

  6. Go for it, Chevy frames are way stronger than ford frames

I have no pictures yet. Yes Chevy chassis looks certainly much stronger than A Ford chassis, and a 32 Ford chassis are expensive in Denmark.

What is IIRC some of the earliest Model T 3 springers and Modifieds???

I could be wrong, but seem to remember that Mr. Coddington did his Model "T" coupe on a Chevy chassis, and that may have been at the least, one of the best cars he ever did.
It did have strange rear quarter windows though.

With a generous 8 weeks to put it together, the crew started on the project with the procurement of a '26 Ford Model T Coupe body. They knew it was going to be fenderless and that's when someone recognized that the curve of the lower body was very close to the curve of early Chevy framerails. The next step was to grab a set of '31 Chevy rails and sure enough it was a perfect match! The frame got the full treatment from Boyd employees Al Simon and Jimmy Pett with some custom cross members to hang all the traditional chassis pieces. Up front, a Magnum 5-inch dropped axle is located by a pair of split wishbones with bounce controlled by a Posies spring and Pete & Jake's shocks. Vega steering guides a pair '40 Ford spindles connected to a set of '48 Ford juice brakes. The rear is more classic machinery with a Ford 9-inch held in place with additional pieces from Pete & Jake's and Posies.

    You are right;)

Go to "vintage shots from days gone by" thread and any model T on a frame with two front springs just might be a T on a Chevy frame. Big Daddy's first slingshot was built on a Chevy frame. With the right thought and engineering you could come up with something pretty kool.

"...was his name-oh..." That's smart ass translated as "X2"

  18. There was a modified built awhile back using a T roadster body on a 31 Chevy frame. It looked like a perfect match and was nice and low because the chevy frame already has a built in step in the rear. I believe only the chevy frame rails were used and ford cross members added.

Nah, no smart ass-ery implied here at all! That car is the perfect example of a "T" body on a pair of Chevy rails.

No bruz, I was being the smart ass. That car posted was where I woulda gone too. Not long ago TRJ had a good spread of old pics. T, A, even Deuce bodies on different chassis. No rules in this stuff, ever.

How far do you want to take it. I have an old Chevy frame and thought it may work for an underslung frame. Richard Riddell's Dodge roadster would be my goal.
