Need a link to a VIN chart for Model A's. I need to cross reference a number I have to see what year, make it is.

Yes I did a search, but searches brought be nothing because the "VIN" doesn't come up, Model A doesn't work out because it won't except the "A", etc. etc,.... I KNOW there is a thread on this too! Just can't find it. Someone please link me up.

    Thanks!

Maybe I missed it, but I just spent a whole bunch of time digging and couldn't find the chart.:confused: that's the first place I went. Where the hell is it?? I thought it was there also!

Probably just losing my mind...

Those are all the Model A serial numbers, actually the engine numbers that were also stamped on frame at assembly time. In October '27 they made Model A's with serial numbers A-1 through A-137, only 137 cars...production pace picked up a little with time, and by the end of US production they were up to A-4,849,340

More were made overseas and as industrial motors after that, but the 4,849,340 should be the newest USA Model A you could find.

Canada also built Model A's with its own engine plant and serial numbers. Other countries assembled Model A's with US or Canadian motors, England started making its own motors in '31 or '32 but used blocks of USA serial numbers still.

Also, they were stamped onto the frame right where the cowl mounts to the frame on the drivers side. You need to take the body off to see it. They were also stamped with a star on either end of the number.

Post the whole number (put XX at end to protect exact number)...where is it, how many digits, what does it look like.
A numbers are pure SERIAL numbers...first one made was stamped A-1, second one was A-2, etc.
Yours could conceivably be British or Canadian built, different stuff.
A number beginning with 6 would have to be early, before production passed a million, since production did not reach 6 million.

A USA built A number would be *A XXXXX*, with the number I did as XX matching into the list above.
Car could also have some sort of state assigned number because it lost its title years ago.

Thanks everyone for this, extremely helpful in finding the VIN and figuring out what I have. Come to find out I have a 1930 and not a 31 as advertised. The motor is out of a 1929. I couldn't believe the number was there in the frame right under the cowel. I could see the last four numbers and the star perfectly. I had to lightly sand the rust down a bit to see the first three numbers. The numbers start close to the bolt hole so there isn't a *A prefix, at least that I can see. There's enough numbers that I know it starts with 3 million thanks to your chart.

man, aren't they anywhere else? the motor was changed on ours before we got it so the number on the title doesn't match the engine...OSP is gonna look at it Wed. so i hope they don't take the body off to find the other one...I have the original owners phone number so they can call him, and have all the app. for title etc.

Don't forget to post an intro, per site rules. We'd like to know who you are.

They are in two locations, block and frame. YOU might want to find the other serial number first, before the police do. If that one matches a car that's already registered, or one that has been stolen, you're screwed.

Oh, and why isn't the original owner applying for the title?

never mind i think they thought it was an 8 not a when the previous owner had filed for insurance on it in Minnesota, im guessing its supposed to be a24541xx just as it is on the title. the previous owners ins card had the wrong vin on it..... i think

That's way too many digits...production ended below 4,000,000, numbers are just manufacturing sequence.
    (on your update...now it's a fairly late '29!)

  28. taco...did you just buy that `29 tudor from Minnesota? if so, i've seen it several times and it is a great car for the money he was asking

  29. Bruce, You should be in congress. What's a million here of there? Actually production ended below 5,000,000.
