  2. Why do we like these little toys? 117.jpg 114.jpg 115.jpg I had someone ask me how many real Hot Rods I needed. They weren't a car person, and they thought that even one was to many. My answer was that I only wanted one car. They look at me kind of funny. Then I said, I only one of each make and model. lol So I guess the only way to do that was with these little cars. But I have always loved toy cars since I was a kid. Ron...

    Hey Guys,
Those die cast cars were very cool. We had our share to use out in the yard and inside on rainy days. There was this little, skinny racer car with only a head sticking out. When I got it, it was nicely painted in red,(silver grey underneath) but over time, the red chipped or wore off, looking like an antique car. But, as the years went by, my mom was a "clean out the toys" freak and if we did not play with them for a year, they were given to our cousins. Most of our little toy cars, car models, airplanes, boats did not make it past 1961 in our house. By that time, we were into big cars and the little ones had been "gathering dust" on our book shelf. So out they went...booo

She even gave away an old Howdy Doody marionette puppet that hung in my room for years...gathering dust, of course. But, I was able to keep a Nylint Mobile Cannon Truck until 2013. I am assuming my mom could not carry the truck, so she allowed us to keep in in an old trunk. But that was not die cast.

  10. Jnaki, Sorry to here about your toys. I was lucky, that my dad still lives in the same house, that I grew up in since I was born. Plus I was very sentimental and never got rid of anything. 015.jpg I took this picture for you of my Howdy Doody doll. Was this like the one you had? I added a Hot Rod to keep it HAMB friendly. He's kinda creepy . Ron...

    Hey Ron,
The look of your Howdy Doody doll IS creepy. Mine had the same basic look with the clothes, but his mouth opened and closed. When looking at him, you could see the lines going down on both sides from his mouth. I remember mine always got tangled as the strings attached to the arms and legs got mixed up. The overall look was still creepy for mine, too. Many times I had to turn the face away or hang it up in reverse so he was looking the other way. There was no way to sleep or study knowing something was looking at you.
    Thanks,
    Junji
My mom was relentless in her mission to keep the two boys clean and tidy. Dust always bothered my brother. So, her idea was that BOTH boys were affected by those little motes and therefore...gone were those dust catching toys...

I haven't gotten into the 1/18 scale collecting thing, they simply take up too much space for me. I did
foolishly get rid of a Buddy L F100 truck and a Nylint roadster. This is a Hot Wheels size Johnny
Lightning Coronet that is nicely done for such a mass produced small scale. I happened to have the
    miniscule decals.

Smith Miller COE GMC toy from the early 50s. I added a custom touch by adding the tandem axle to the tractor. It took more engineering than expected to get the bogies articulating correctly. Now, it's a true 18-wheeler ready for a load of junk old cars.

I also found this cool Jailbar Ford. The company that built these log trucks in Salem, Oregon went out of business in 1956. The air horn steers the front wheels.

You've gotta remember that the Pharaohs didn't hang with Steve Bolander, John Milner or even Bob
Falfa. Wait...a twist...maybe the Pharaohs put Falfa up to come looking for Milner!
