These cars are a 'gotta be there' experience. I always love seeing these things in the flesh. Photos dont do justice. OMG that's fantastic in fresh paint.
The Porsche finished its stay at Eurocraft Classics in Manchester, GA where all of the paint and body work has been finished. It now moves on to some other stages of the restoration - brakes and finishing the suspension first and then on to trim and interior. Mike Marcelic did a phenomenal job on the paint and bodywork.
I've been working on the Carrera installing new brakes, tie rods, Koni steering damper, dual master cylinder, and trunk insulation. I've cleaned up and reinstalled the Koni shocks, the headlights and horns and rewired the lights. I've also applied a fresh coat of Candy Apple Red to the tail light lenses. The drums are off getting polished and will be done next week. I'll be installing the Stoddard insulation kit in the interior and engine compartment next, then the headliner and new windshield will go in followed by the rest of the glass.
I gotta admit that I have always love the the look of the 356's,,both the coupe and the roadsters and someday I would love to own one. HRP
Its getting closer - suspension is all done (brakes need to be bled) and all of the body sound deadening is installed. We'll be putting in the headliner next week and then the glass goes back in. We hope to get the dash and interior done in January and finish up the engine compartment in February.
We made it to the Amelia Island Concours (barely) in time for Dean to pull the cover off the car and reveal the finished paint and interior to the world at the Friday afternoon Hot Rod Lifestyles seminar. Dean was very pleased with how it turned out - alternately describing the car as "Bitching" and "Really Neat" (about six times each). I was so glad that we were able to do this for him to see - he really deserves the accolades the car received for its form. Here are some shots... The Custom Carrera was on the show field on Sunday where it was reunited with the Aztec
The July 2011 issue of Excellence magazine just hit the news stands with a six page article on the Carrera. Its a great article on the history of the car.
I was just thinking about this car the other day, I think I remember reading about it on 356talk. It's absolutely gorgeous, well done! Are you still running the 4-cam engine in it?
