Found these for sale on Craigslist with a bunch of other junk. Scooped them up.

They're early 60's M&H Super Stock (Gold Bar Series?) 9.00/9.50-14. The steelies are stamped "Ford". I haven't been able to find much information on these slicks. Does anyone have any details?

They are probably not going to be good for anything other than rollers for around the garage being that old I wouldn't run them for driving.

Yes... You are correct. They aren't the same tires in the ad...

They're pretty dry-rotted. You guys think if I get some tubes for them I could putz around my neighborhood with them?

Display only tires, clean them up and put them on your museum cars! Gary

I would run them, for just putting around. Its not like your gonna flip over if one goes flat.

  11. Those old tires like that don't always just go flat. They like to explode and take quarter panels with them. Even at low speed and no burnouts or anything like that They can blow without warning.

I don't know... I heard that when bias ply tires go flat they explode into flaming fireballs and send radioactive rays in every direction.

You can run them, if you don't mind the chance of blowing apart any body work close to the tire, when the old rotted tire fails! I wouldn't run them. I'm not even sure I would want to put air pressure in them! Old dry rotted tires have been know to blow out just sitting around! Ever seen a tire blow the sidewall apart? Damaging pieces can fly 10+ feet! They look like tire rack specials or display tires, not mounted on the car, to me. Gene

I was thinking that the airing up part would make me think twice.

If they were radials, I wouldn't touch them. The tires on my A are from the 60's and appear to be in good shape. I drive on them and am not worried about it. Hell I've driven WWII trucks with rubber flapping and survived.

Welp, too late for that. The first thing I did was pump them up to 25 lbs each. :D

One of them held air OK and the other leaked through the valve stem. I'll probably get some tubes and do a couple burnouts to test them. I read that if you heat up bias ply tires the rubber will bond together making them stronger.

Worse case scenario the tires blow out my fenders, but hey, that's the first step towards making that altered dragster I've always wanted to build and never had the balls to make the first cut. It's really a win-win if you think about it.

I have an old set of M/T Dragmaster pie-crust slicks mounted on rusty reverse-chrome wheels. They were used on a 1959 Corvette that had been sitting since 1969. They're in my shed and I've been wondering what to do with them.

Make it a bleach box burnout. Film it for us and post it up here on the thread. We can use some entertainment.

How is the tire going to explode with a tube in it?

first - finding those was pretty slick - Ha! surprised no one else beat me to that. second - instead of destroying them why not sell to buy some stuff that you really need? third - your ride, do what manly thing you want to do to it.

  27. Wipe them down with diesel, won't keep them from popin', if they are prone to do so, but they will look better.

  28. Treads look similar to the bias ply 760 x 15 "Bald Eagle" racing slicks on my car.

This is my thought... Are bias ply tires less prone to 'blowing out' when tubes are used? I wouldn't think of running them without tubes.

I had a similar deal, old cheater slicks that sat on a 55 Vette in a barn for 35 years. I ran them on the back of one of my Henry J's for about a month. Low speed, back roads driving, short trips of 3 miles or less at a time. They were so hard I wondered if they needed air. I never broke the bead on the rim though, just ran as is.
