Send me pic's and a price When you say Continental, I'm assuming it's a MKII My Dad loves those things He had one in the 80's and has a garage of full of Lincolns now He would be interested if the price is right PM me
Off topic but I love the 77-79 Mark models. They were choked by emissions but the beauty was in the details of the body. Just my opinion though since somebody said all of the 70s and 80s cars were ugly. I had a 77 with the 460 and a Bill Blass edition 79 with the 400.
Lincolns - they're just like Cadillacs, only they're Fords! Unfortunately for them, Cadillacs exist and they will therefore always live in Cadillac's shadow. They have produced some exceptionally beautiful cars - the 56 Continentals for example, but also some misses too - the 58 - 60 Lincolns with the slant-eyes are, ummmm........ an 'acquired taste'. I'm glad they have been added to the pantheon of classics for us to take inspiration from. Hang on, that sounds a bit gay!! Damn!!! Show me some more Marilyn Monroe or Jayne Mansfield or ........
Great Post, Great, to say the least......... Been fortinate thur the years to have owned several "Fine " lincolns. A few Continitals, Zephers, and a '42 Continital Cabrolet, one of few built. a '34 KA Dietrich Convertible, (that I could'nt afford to Restore ! But did drive It. Love Lincoilns, and it was A Fun Part of My Life.. Thanks for Sharing. Smokey
Most "contemporary" cars look like they were inspired by a used bar of soap! You could paint "IVORY" on a Ford Contour and somebody would try and wash with it.
The '56/'57 Continentals are incredible looking. Smoothest looking car for it's time bar none.... This one looked much better after we put it in a new black suit... Go here for more pics: http://www.flickr.com/photos/cccstl/sets/72157625692085894/
Hey, Any idea on who was the coachbuilder of this '39? K Model Lincoln DHC? Wow doesn't begin to cover it Thanx
I have a soft spot for the first Mark III I think '68. Then as always Ford had to change them and they started getting uglier year by year. Gary
When I was working at a garage in 71 we had a customer who had a 55 Lincoln that he bought off the showroom floor- kept in his garage, only drove on sunny Sundays. 16 years old with less than 5000 miles. For 1000 more he could have had the Mark 11, his widow sold the car in 74 for 1000. Car had never felt water- he dusted it off but never washed it. Girlfriend's Dad has a 46 Continental Convertible, a 60 Continental Convertible, a 71 Lincoln with less than 40K on it, and a 2004 as a Daily Driver. None are what most would call Milestone cars but the 46 was the car he always wanted as a teenager, and the 60 he bought in 63, was their Daily driver thru the 80's, never been wrecked and still looks good(was repainted once). The 46 is an treat to work on- even with the 12 cyl everything is easy to get at but the hydraulics are unreal- even the windows are hydraulic. The 60 floats down the road- there is no road feel at all. She has put in her claim on the 60- says her sister can have the 46. I have no input here.
not really sure who the coach builder was, but it was built for the BAYER (asprin) family, and was one of the first to have sealed beam headlights
