Technical Lancaster Rob's 55 Chevy ft axle pics.

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Kiwi Kev, Sep 23, 2015.

  1. I just finished installing a straight axle in a 55 Chevy owned by my new friend Robert from Lancaster, CA. The car is super clean and is an 11 second street car with a big block.
Lucky Rob just bought a pair of skinny American magnesium 5 spokes for the front ($100 Craigslist score!) Anyway here are the pics...

  4. I'm sure it will hit the track again but it is a street car. Engine is a 468 with an ultimate Turbo 400 built by Mike's Transmission, reverse valve body, 10 inch continental converter. Rear end is a 59 Olds/Pontiac with post set up by Tom's rear end service in the old days, 4.88 gears.
The front axle was made by Jim "Tinny" Tinsmith, vise president of East Coast Gassers out of Pennsylvania. Leaf springs, hangers and shackles are from Speedway. Lower steering arms are 57 Chevy pickup, reshaped. Upper steering arm is 55 Chevy car, reshaped. Steering box is stock 55 Chevy with reshaped pitman arm.

  5. That thing looks "tough"!

Nice work, as always, Kev! :)

  6. So the Chev arms are forged and can be heated and reshaped with no problem ?
    Very nice job.

  7. Great work. Loved seeing all your treasures in the photo's background. And yes the steering arms can be heated and bent.
