Just a stupid question, apparently you're keeping the stock rear end, did you check if both engine are rotating in the same direction? I ask because I knew of somebody who after finishing his swap ended up with 4 reverse and 1 forward speed.

Well, it's gonna be very difficult....Now I know why not many people haven't done "the swap Fregate engine".....
All troubles are here, reverse pan oil, front axle to high, direction bar up on firewall, flat floor......I have to adapt step by step.

    A big big big (x3, yes:mad:) challenge:confused:.

I don't know yet if I have not destroy my car:eek:, but sometimes I don't see any solution...and I have to improvise...so if I want to drive my car again, I'm must keep the faitho_O......I need to take a break for the week end....and go back Monday to continue the story.....;);););).

    Some pictures...o_O
    [IMG]
I must be crazy to do this without help, outside, in the street, with basic tools.....I need Texas whisky :p;););)

To resume, I have 7,87' inch between the front axle and the gearbox to fit the oil pan.....but the oil pan is 9,44'......

I cannot backward the engine, because the direction bar is mount on the top of the firewall!!!!!...and the cylinder head touch it.....

The car is too low, and the engine and gear box are too close from the ground....

The propshaft will be be hard to align, and need a floor tunnel...

    well, well.....step by step;)

  7. New motor mounts pushing that new power train up and a tunnel as well. If it was easy it wouldn't be cool. I try to focus on the next problem and push forward. You can do it.

You should put in escort Mk1 RS 2000, in the 90s they relaunched it in a FWD cossie engine. Not the same pan as I recall.

You know I did a quick and dirty mock up of shortened MII A arms on the stock Fregate cross member on mine, they seem to fit extremely well with minimum work and have the correct geometry, I did that when I was thinking about swapping a Chevy 6 in mine, that solved the steering problem and get you a modern rack and pinion and disc brake up front. That would allow you to put as much engine set back as you want.

  13. Great build and great thread! I'm right there with you on my project; new engine, new trans, frame mods...Solve one problem and 4 more pop up. Your back hurts and its just you doing everything. You got a big group of supporters cheering you on though, so keep it up!

Well, news......after the snow, the rain, the bad place, the street, a new problem....new neighbor. And of course, they own a car, and a scooter.....not enough place to work anymore, too much difficulty, and I have decided to stop my car.

Today I have phone to the wrecker, end of the story.

    Bye bye Fregate.

    ............

    ............

    sad news, isn't it?.

Wait a minute, I'm Ratatouille, and expect poison, nothing can't stop me, I'm not Iron man, I'm just a guy who want to have a car, my car, and enjoy my pleasure, so......

    Pictures ;-)

My new neighbor car.....fuck, no more space...
And of course, the scooter is park where it's better for the owner (I'm a nice guy no?).

The solution to fit the ford engine (I hope...) is to modify the oil sump....and I need to work on it, but the engine is placed on it.....
    I bought a engine stand......

Your many challenges are certainly serious and would make many a Hot Rodder quit and call the wrecker. I applaud your initiative, creativity and skill. Seldom have others done so much with so little in the face of adversity. As we say over here hang in there, we are cheering you on!

    Today's work.....

    The oil sump is remove.....

I try to let the original oil pump in place, I don't want to modify the tube....

Always with my limited tools, on the floor.

After some brainstorming, something like this is gonna be ok.....

    Test before welding

  25. Hi rata,
    Looks good.
I really admire that you do all this in the street. I was also a street builder when i was young and absolutely hated all the people passing by and looking at my work and commenting. Sometimes even if they said nothing I could feel how they hated it that I'm working in front of their houses.
One fine neighbour even called the police claiming that i've drained oil in the sewer (which I had not of course).
So keep up your good work and humour.
