Nice work Brant. Glad you put a nice radius in the corner of the rear quarter window. It is stuff like that , that can make or break a chop. To you and your wife I congratualte you both on a chop well done. Geoff aka whodaky
Can a non Vagabond get in on this little love fest? Great job Brant, I like the fact that you moved the rear window forward rather than making a sloper out of it. BB
So, I went out to the garage tonight for a couple of hours, inspired by my friends to do some more work. I fitted the other side's "B" pillar, finished the quarter window, making it match the other side exactly. Both window openings measure 21 1/4" diagonally from new corner to the top corner of the "B" pillar. I also finished the "A" pillar. I shot some bomb paint on there to see how it is fitting together. Fit, shape, weld, grind. Story of my life for the next little while. Progress pictures.
Ok, more progress pics. Today I worked on the upper portion of the drivers door jam. It turned out ok. For the filler between the trunk and rear window, I kinda paper mache'd it with cardboard panel and some masking tape. Then I primered it with gray and black. Two things I am accomplishing with this method. 1. I get to see what it would look like, more or less. Which helps with the rear window placement as far as height in the roof. 2. I get a pattern for my panel. Simple tech. Thanks for checking it out and the comments. Keep them coming please. This is my first attemp at a chop like I mentioned before, I could sure use some tricks n' tips.
Looks great! It makes my head hurt thinking of all the ways a chop can be screwed up, I really respect someone who can make it work.
I took it outside today and down the road to see what it looked like. What do you think? It's solid and I have to make the filler pieces for the rear and quarters. I need some freakin door tops. I am heading out to a local guys place today to see how much he wants for some. I know he has them........I NEED I NEED I NEED! Anyway, who doesn't like profile shots in the outdoors? Helps with the prospective. Thanks for lookin' Brant
The chop really enhances the lines of the car. You did good! Like the way that rear filler panel is coming along.
Thanks, that is the paper mache' ish masking tape card board primer thingy that I made to make the pattern and see what it would look like filled in. I think I like the rear window height where it is.
Yesterday, me and the missus went foragin' through a yard of history. Found a good door top off a nasty 46 4 door. Perfect for filler pieces. Today I spent an hour or so making the drivers. I have an issue with the rear of the top and the b pillar. Seems this is where a PO wrapped a chain around and lifted the car. Crushed the door here and put some smallish dents in the B pillar. I cant get in there to push them out, so I may have to cut them and make a filler piece here too. Any ideas?
i too appreciate the fact that your not sloping the rear of the roof.. when I had my 47 coupe I thought that it would great with the rear of the roof shortened, but not chopped. you may prove that both look good..
