I'm guessing that the "secret formula" was candy paint. Can anybody with this magazine take a look inside and let us know?

For programs like this they would have an illustrator draw a generic car so it wouldn't favor any one of the manufacturers. So today we might think of the generic car as a custom. This one looks pretty interesting. It's lowered to the point that the tires would be rubbing on the undersides of the fenders. That high ground clearance makes it look awkward, though.

  15. rbantique,

How in-depth is that article on installing the quick change rear? Might be a fun one to add to Tech Week!

rbantique you might want to find an old picture frame that has nothing it in and it's it's the correct size lay it over the old small books open on a table or something to hold it open to the page you want. Easier than holding it

I am just posting found images ... the fingers , technique, and photo content are not under my control. I've posted and sold most of my old magazines. The ones from my stuff were scanned (see the early posts).

The instrumentation on the firewall suggests the builder enjoyed a lot of time hovering over the engine.

This car still exists!!! It was built by brothers Carl and Bob Austin in the mid-fifties. It's first iteration was as seen here with the flathead, black paint and '35 Ford wires. The brothers took the cat completely appart in the early sixties and put a deuce frame under it, dropped in a SB Chev and repainted it a stunning Candy Apple blue. They drove it everywhere. Then they got into building super-modifieds which they raced at Oswego, NY. The T sat for a long time until Carl decided it needed some TLC. He was in the midst of that when he got cancer and died. I HATE CANCER! The car is apart and sitting in one of his son's garages at present.

The Austin brothers are the sole reason I am still putzing about with old cars. And, it would be nearly impossible to find two finer humans on the face of this earth.

I was expecting a flying car when younger for good reason!
