I was watching The Great Escape tonight and saw this groovy little piece of machinery and wondered what it was. I'm thinkin' Pugeot or Fiat, but I really don't know.I just don't think it's German,I think it's French. Oh and what the hell,Does anyone know where one is? I've got a woodie.LOL
Ask Virgil Hilts, he might know. After all, he is useing one of the charactors names as a HAMB handle.
Hey Squirrel when do you sleep? Is the Citroen a serious Id or a guess? Yeah Rubber I figured Stu would see it at some point and be right on it.LOL
sleep? yeah, that's what the car is, made from about 1934-55 http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Citroën_Traction_Avant
Squirrel, you once again are so right. That business on Wikepedia is very informative. The damn thing sure covers a lot of years.LOL Thanx
Ahh Virgil,I knew you'd be here. i'm glad you concur. Man I just think that little car is sexy as hell, even without the ugly frenchies and the machine gun.LOL Have you got one stashed? It's just beggin' to be hot rodded!
Back in 2002 there were 50 of them in the Petersen Museum parking lot getting ready for a cross country tour. The owners had shipped them in from all over the world for that tour. A Google search should turn up some interesting info.
None stashed but I had a Renault LeCar given to me once. I have a soft spot (in my head) for the later DS http://www.iprovinciali.it/wp-content/CitroenDS_blu.jpg
a citroen indeed. They had a lot of different design features, if you ever see a steering wheel from a DS model you'll want one on your hod rod.
Squirrel's right, but in the flesh there not so good looking (The Citroen, not Squirrel). But then again thats just an opinion and we all know the story about that.
Well you know everybody is prettier with beer. But even in the light of day I have a woodie,No, not for squirrel, for the car! This place has a dirty mind.LOL Ohhh that's me Doc you're right about the opinion thing Does anyone know where one of these is that could be possessed without breakin' the bank?
Watched the movie at a theatre ( I think the Paramount on Market Street) with my dad; he said it was a Citroen also. I remember because they had a Citroen in the shop that was being built to race down Baja and I was thinking it didn't look anything like the one in the shop.
99.9% of them are fourdoors like that...I once saw a dead cabriolet or roadster on, can't remember which after 40 years, abandoned at the edge of a tiny village in France..THAT one was really cool looking. Only one I ever saw. No idea if it was a custom bodied one or factory. According to an article in Special Interest Autos, Citroen tried to negotiate with Ford for 85hp V8's to put in these things--unfortunately, the deal fell through. A bit of colorful history: My Father's chauffeur when he was the US Consul General in Stuttgart long ago, Herr Aman, was chauffeur to a General (second place team) during the war. He said that he and his general always tried to appropriate a Citroen instead of a Benz, because the Citroen would remain upright when turned off the road at high speed to avoid a strafing Thunderbolt...
They were one of the first production front wheel drive cars. They can still occasionally be found in barns etc in France although like anything they are getting fewer and further between. They also built some in Slough in the UK for a while.
My friends father has been using one as his daily driver for the past 30 years. Quite advanced for its time with front wheel drive and unibody construction. P.
Hey, Try to find a picture of the 3 window they also built. They kinda look like a sectioned '33-'34Ford kustom. there was one on frog ebay last month$35K for a primered beater. Swankey devils C.C.
I would like to have one but I wouldn't pay 35K for one on a bet even if I could afford it,LOL What in the hell is "frog e-bay"? It just seems to be screamin' for a boogydad inline 6 of some kind with a bucket full of gears and a real mild chop.
