Enjoy all the old pictures, brings back old memories. Is
Was the owner of car 44 out of Owensboro,My. The weekend to Louisville,Ky
Stokey was not avable . me and Charlie Green well took the 300, Charlie was the
Driver at that race. And another thing I don't think Darrell Waltrip was there. Ray Clark

  5. Not all are 'old' vintage pics but some are and this 'old' tune by Jim Croce kinda adds to the neatness of these shots.

  6. Here's another one, classic cars, classic Red Foley:

Here's a video someone took at Sugar Island Park which was located south of Kankakee, IL.

#32 is Pat O'hara; 43 Earl J (Hubert) from Aroma Park, IL; 1 Bobby Shell from Piper City, IL; 4 was Joe Weaver or Carney Shaw (either way it was Shaw's car) Shaw was from Manteno, IL; 111 was Don Dluzak; 66 was Bobby or Pete Vaughn from Clifton. One was # 66, the other #99; XP-1 was Bill Cox Jr from Bourbonnais, IL; 63 Bill Genzel; black and yellow 64 was Gene or Don Breeden from Cissna Park, IL; 96 was Corky Ritter, 44 was Bob Morrell.
The track was run by a club. It was called the Kankakee Valley Stock Car Racing Association. The flagman was Don Hartman from Bourbonnais. The track was owned by Don Montalta.
I went to my first race at this track in 1964.

That's me above, in a '64 Chevelle, with my race face on. Waltrip put his bumper in my door, and left the big gouge toward the bottom, and he ended his night in the infield ;)

Pic above is Darrel Dexter, @hilltop Speedway, Marietta, Ohio. Pic IS from 1969, but since he is in a '57 Chevy, I thought it might pass.

  22. How do you know Freddy Hadley!? He was from Middlebourne, WV, and wasn't he killed in a wreck at Pennsboro Speedway in '71?

alumcantandthd, I am originally from Athens, Ohio. That picture of Fred in his '64 Chevelle was taken at Skyline Speedway, 1970. That is the car he was killed in at Pennsboro. The picture below it is Loren Pidcock from New Marshfield, Ohio, taken at Torch Speedway in 1954.

  28. Ole Freddy, and Bud Weigle (spelled wrong, 'halvies' with Fred) were local legends! Freddy with his "aw shucks" attitude and constant crooked grin, but 'hard charging' driving style, was well known in Tyler County. One of his 'daily drivers' was a old Jeep pick up with a Pontiac motor and Hydramatic.

It surprised me when I saw your picture, and that you 'knew' Freddy. Tyler County is 'sorta off the beaten path,,,,,. Well, it "WAS" rural. The gas fracking is now making several there rich.

Harold Redman used to run Tyler County Speedway a few years ago. I was born and raised and lived in Athens County for 38 years. Moved to Wyoming in 1999, and have worked on drilling rigs ever since. I keep threatening to move back and work in the drilling industry there, since my 80 year old mother is still there. Here is a site you may know of already

    Lots of old pics there.
