Wow! I wish I had as much metal shaping talent in my whole body as you have in your little finger.

Maybe you could get BobPer to build you a 'Dadgum Frame' to go with it, although I'm sure you can do it yourself.

If you ever get around to doing the all aluminum one, I would sell all my junk and buy it. Got any idea how much something like that would cost?

I am using 19 gauge metal. I don't really care about being factory perfect. It never will be. The .036" it's bigger is a drop in the bucket. But I'm actually patterning the edges and flanging them in the same spot so it's close. I mean how wide are sharpie lines? Either way. I don't care lol. I want something that resembles a 27.

  4. Dang that's some nice metal work. Sure not your first time around metal. I definitely need to take some metal shaping classes and have some fun like that. Good job.

Steve, I really like what you're doing there. I know exactly what you mean about factory fit, if you are close, you're probably better than Henry. I really have my eye on your Baileigh mag bending brake, I hear that's quite a machine. GearheadsQCE has a point worth exploring since we're only 2 hr.s apart, but he should jump in and build us a couple of quickchanges. Again, I love your work. Bob

If you need Quickchanges, I will work with you. Remember, it's Quickchange Exchange. We will 'exchange' more than Quickchange stuff.
You don't know how bad I want an all aluminum '27 roadster!!!!!

Please don't misunderstand my comments. I was in no way questioning your methods just curious if I was looking at the process the right way.

I'm pulling profile gauges off the original and paper patterns and only using the old parts for visual verification. not as a form or buck for fitting. ImageUploadedByH.A.M.B.1444393678.503314.jpg

    Steve,
Did you get any training for tin bending somewhere? You are doing awesome work here.

I did take a 4 day class with Wray Schelin, and we maintain a pretty good relationship (AKA he lets me come in and pick his brain) While his methods are genius and work, I have developed my own techniques that work for me. they are a hybrid of his and mine. either way, taking his class is a big jump start in the land of shaping.

they'll be last... sub rails next!
hope you're doing well tom. I saw your car at the manchester show, looking good!

How are you planning to do your subrails? Are you going to form them out of sheet like the originals or are you going to do something else?

I've been building one out of flat, tube and angle.

the factory subrails were 13ga, but open on the bottom. My plan is to make some out of 16ga but be fully boxed. two pieces with a weld seam on the top and bottom, it will be easier to put all the details in that way. Box tubing won't look right to me.
