Can I answer this too???? :)

Watson painted these flames on a Merc Convertible for Larry Lorenzo.... somewhere in the 50's. I dont know which year for sure. But looking at the cars in the background. it must be somewher in 57-58.

And there was this one.. .I think the license plate reads '56...

Wow, Rikster, although i have never seen the top photo i have seen the bottom one and completely forgot about that ! Come to think of it, i bet Watson sprayed flames on many a Merc back in the late 50's/early 60's.

So Cal Merc, The Bailon Merc will be in attendance.

Update info from the producers of the show:

Vehicle trailers that qualify for tow money will be paid $.40 per mile, one way, traveling over 150 miles one way, to maximum of 1,000 miles. Tow money must be picked up at the show office between 1:00 p.m. until the close of the show on Sunday. Tow money is not paid to special exhibit vehicles, go karts, pedal cars, bicycles, and all non-competition entries.

Just wanted to clarify what i originally posted .

    Thanks, Axle

Axel, talked to Mercury Charlie and Dean Bryant. They said they were still coming, also talked to Bill Warden. He is going to contact you. He owns the Ralph Testa Mercury. Waiting for more call backs. Keep you informed. Chip

Alex mentioned Paul Bragg would have his - finished - 51 Mercury convertible at the show, and possibly another Merc as well.. perhaps he was referring to this in progress Merc he is building for himself... (or his other finished Merc the Two Tone Green... but I think I would prefere the unfinished metal magic Merc as well.)

these two mercs are bad ass!!
i talked to Paul one year at paso. he was checking out my 53,looking at the weather stripping on the roof to see what he was missing. and i kept asking all the questions i could about how to chop mine cause i wanted to chop it and i love the way he did his back window. it's not sunk down in the package tray like everybody else does. anyways the more we talked the more i admired the man he just breaths Kustom. a real great guy and if some friend comes up and tries talking to him he doesn't blow you off like the other guys do. the best part he told me " give me your address i want to mail you something" like 3 or 4 months later i get a video in the mail. one of those long 8 hour tapes and it's nothing but him talking and demonstrating how he chopped his 54 and like tons of other stuff he was doing to it and some other stuff. it's the best raw how to video. another prize of mine.

hey Axle. it would cool if you could get all the legends to come and do a autograph singing say on Sat or Sun.
another thing would be to get Paul to put either one of his unfinished mercs in a 50's kustom shop display. say like there both in a shop getting work done with period piece tools around it, like lead paddles, old victor torch set etc... you know like it looked like when you were a kid looking through the doors of say Barris or Winfield's shop, looking at that car you dreamed of owning with all it's lead work showing.. not like now nothing but pink dust everywhere.

    just a thought

    THAT DISPLAY WOULD BE AWSOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
The autograph signing would probably be a bigger draw than anything else the shows promoter could do, especially if he can get all the greats that are still with us to come out!

I'm going to be managing the Suede Pavilion and this Merc building, running around the Cal Expo grounds, taking care of stuff, BUT, if one of you guys would be willing to make a neat simulated back drop (work shop garage) and want to bring all kinds of old body tools, and set up a space where we could put an unfinished car at that spot, i think it would go over very well !

Let me know if any of you would be up for the task, Axle

Maybe a couple guys could help?

Yeah Wolfs car is great too. Back in about 1993 Me and Wolf worked together at a hot rod shop near LA, so I was fortunate to be able to see Wolfs car first hand! It's very well done with a beautiful roof line and those Matranga/Hirohata style windows actually roll down! He's a nice guy too.

Yes I do still have the 16's on right now but im going back and forth between 15's and 16's in my head. I love the look of the 16's but it's hard to find one with the large whitewall in the 600-650 style tire.

I second that and Wolf's too. Both great guys. I like the Stardust (Should get that one there as well) along with the Matranga clone. But, Kent's chop is just beyond words and one I would like to mimic. But, I'm keeping the B-pillar. I think I look at a pic of Kent's Merc at least once a week (Hahahaha!!!). Though I did see Wolf's while he was her in the states in the early-mid 90's, not knowing who he was, I just though he was another cool guy in the LK cc.

.........And of course Jimmy Summers 1940 Mercury Vert Custom (My favorite) It's been found and currently being restored, not sure which color version. There was something here on the HAMB and RJ a couple issues back.

Wolf recently put a lot of his in progress photos of Kent's 1940 Mercury chop on his own site.
Wolf performed the chop and work on Kents Merc.... absolutley great pics....
It was an absolute pleasure to see both Kents and Wolfs Merc's up close two years ago... And would it be great for them to have there cars in that exhibit!!!

Click on the photo to see the complete album.

Do you have any additional information on who owns the Jimmy Summer's '40 Merc, or who is restoring it? You are talking about the green channelled convertible with the Buick- style, handmade grill? The car was also maroon before it was green...I can thank Rikster for teaching me that :)

I believe the guy lives up north (They're really keeping a lid on this one). It's pretty much the same except some minor changes like the headlights frenched like Ohanesian 1940 Mercury Custom. There was a guy on here claiming to know Jimmy Summers (living down the street) but nothing ever developed. Jimmy Summers would be the person I would love to talk to and see more of.

Unfortunately Jimmy Summers has passed away for quite some time now... but yeah that would have been really great to e able to talk to him.

Donn Lowe took the photos that where used in the Rodder's Journal, he knows where the car is. I have send contact info to Axle.... but I have my doubts they will show the car before its completely restored.... And I'm not even sure if the restoration already has started.
