So a few years ago a couple of buddies around town heard about an old hot rod 34 truck, so they went an looked at it, my buddies are pretty picky so after looking at it they told me about it and said it was rough and the guy was asking too much money, it sounded intriguing to me and i knew my buddies were picky and figured it probably was nicer than they made it out to be, well time went buy and i never had enought dough to go look at it and always had it in the back of my mind and wanted to go see it but never made it too, fast forward a another couple years and another buddy of mine heard about it and went and looked at it and took a bunch of pics and got a little more info but now the price had gone up more, more than it was probably worth. i was still interested in looking at it but again, i was just to busy. fast forward another couple years, a new freind had been talking to me about building a frame for him and he does alot of driving for work and finds alot of stuff, well he managed to come across the 34 truck again, i told him what i knew about it and he asked me what i thought about it and i told him i thought it was a neat and good little truck but needed some love and we talked over the price and what it would take to get it on the road etc etc. well he decided to take a trip up to look at the car and a deal was struck.

heres a couple pics, ill continue on with the story in the next post.

Im not sure what year the guy bought the truck but it was basically a stock truck.

He then started making a hot rod out of it some wheres around 60 ish, channeled the cab, shortened the box, put the olds in it etc etc.

then came a fresh paint job and some more chrome

the car was entered in the 1963 Gsta rod and custom car show, it was entered unfinished.

from there the car basically sat for many years, until my friend came along.

The car had some issues that needed to be addressed, the motor was about 5" too far forward, the x member was badly cut up, the cab was angle channeled and the box wasnt aligned with the cab, steering needed some help, the front spring was wrong, motor was now stuck and it had a hyrdo.

So, my buddy Chad got he car home and dug into it, Ive been mentoring him on the car! LOL

my buddy had a good 324 for sale that came with a speed gems adaptor to Gm so i told him to put a 3 speed behind it.

He trimmed out the bad x member and used just he back sections over, he slid the motor back and remounted it.

The cab had been wedge channeled so i told him to lower the back and mounted cab with out a wedge, so he reversed teh rear main and took a few leaves out, much better.

so next step will be to mount he cab.

    So stay tuned

Also, he is going to be putting the car in the GSTA rod and custom show that is still going strong some 51 years later!

Isn't it strange some of the build elements you see in some of the old "barn finds"? Knowing what we know today and how the hobby/obsession has evolved it's hard to imagine how some of these creations would ever have reached fruition. Probably why most were tucked away when the creator hit a brick wall during the construction. Dragging them into the light and giving them a second chance is one of the sweetest parts of hot rodding today.

It seems that these trucks are always 1934 models. I have two and they are both 34s too.

Awh yeah. That 'progression' of models is another cool keepsake.
