A few of us got together on Saturday to travel down for some fun at the first GOW! Speed Hill Climb in the beautiful Cotswold countryside. The Bugatti Owners Club, owners of the historic Prescott hill climb track since the 1930's, very graciously invited the Vintage Hot Rod Association to hold this exclusive event. A great time was had by all and a huge amount of thanks need to go to Neil Fretwell and the VHRA crew for making it happen. Minimum regulation / maximum fun! Can't wait 'till next year!
The Bugatti Owners Club had many members away at another event, but also they were very keen not to steal the VHRA's thunder - they are a very cool bunch! This was the only Bug present - maybe someone will post some pics of it on the track...
Man, did we have some fun. The VHRA had booked Prescott for the weekend and we took to the track all day Saturday. I personally managed 20 runs up the hill, and it was amazing. Just great cars, great friends, great atmosphere, great venue and great fun. Big ups to Neil, VHRA, the Sidewinders and the folk who ran the track. Can't wait till next year. Pete
It was absolutely fantastic. I jumped the gun a bit and snagged the first run up the hill at the first VHRA GOW! event. Old Rusty did me proud. Didn't take any pics, but there are some video's on youtube. My mate Gavin in his 32 pickup. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=B-PuEohP09g Gavin riding shotgun in Old Rusty. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oPlyqcQ99yE Ok, you've seen little itty bitty sports cars and hot rods running the hill, but the most spectacular was John Harrison's two tons-o-fun Dodge. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=u_jmU6SwwdQ And a little bit from the outside: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RCR6Bn0EdHo It was great, I'll see if I can snag some other peoples pics and link to them here. Mart.
An amazing event. Everyone involved deserves huge thanks. Here are some vids I took. Me in my 32 truck. Mart in his A roadster. Pete in his modified. The most entertaining run with John in his 58 Dodge!
A video of my modified taking to the hill with Gavin riding shotgun and shouting "fuck me" when he didn't think I was gonna brake for the hairpin. http://youtu.be/x03NHQQSyzY Cheers for the footage Gav. Pete
Bloody fantastic weekend, and yep it was a lot of fun. Huge thanks to Neil and the VHRA, the East Coast Sidewinders and of course all the staff and marshalls at Prescott.
Beautiful venue and looks like it was a huge success. I gather that OHV's are allowed if the 58 Dodge got to run. You were very lucky to get access to a venue like that as hot rodders and Bugatti owners are very different groups. Having said that I guess Bugattis are the "hot rods" of the vintage car crowd.
Ran a couple of times. Wasn't gunning it as the driver was new to the car (quite a young lad) and was getting the feel of the hill and used to the car.
Absolutely superb weekend, the friendliest most laid back race meet you could ever wish to be a part of. Hopefully more photos will be posted up. I was way to busy enjoying myself catching up with old friends and giving the car some grief up the hill to even think of trying to capture the weekend on film. Many thanks to Neil (Mr VHRA) and the Sidewinders, top work gents
A real nice set of pics here, including a couple of Neil Bennet piloting my car (Old Rusty) up the hill, which I was pleased to see, because I felt honoured having him drive the car. http://www.flickr.com/photos/stefanmarjoram/sets/72157633746901477/ Mart.
Haven't sorted my pictures out yet - didn't take many though as I spent all day running my new engine in...
A bit of luck, yeah, but also a whole load of hard work and a huge pile of cash. These venues can be hired but it just takes someone with the guts to stump up the folding and then the skills to make it happen. The Wrong 'Un on here takes all the credit. Top job, Neil.
