I hope I'm not out of line with this this post. On powerblock TV they built a floating traction bar system using spring hangers on the front of the bars and mounted onto a crossmember on the Comet altered e-go. Does anyone have any info on this type of setup? I tried a search on powerblock but no luck. I know I could make the diff slide on the springs but do not want to go that route as the piviot seems more in line with the gassers of old.

  8. You talking about CalTrac bars?

  9. The colored plexi was just a groovy tie in with the paint scheme, and I am also a huge fan of it, I couldn't wait to do the blue plexi on our '56.

No, these are mounted inboard similar to the lower bars of a 4 link. I have a home made set of Caltrac's but do not want to use them on the Hj.

Looks kinda like my old ride, it is a shame that the new owner of my now restored 37' does not show the gasser

So people can see how they were back in the heyday of the great gassers

Oh well its his nickel and he has the say

It still shocks the hell outta me that those cars can be made so light.

Even with your steel plate trunk floor your car weighed about half what it looked like it should weigh Don!:)

What did yours weigh in at again?I remember it was light as hell with all the glass parts on it,but I can't remember an exact weight...

By the way,I'm using that pic you emailed me of your car as my screensaver at work, and about a dozen people have just about lost their minds after seeing that car, then hearing how fast you ran the first time out with it.

There was a gentleman at the Meltdown with one,all freshened up by Quain Stott after it had been in storage for decades, now running a 1000hp Gene Fulton motor and a Hightower 4 spd.
Even when Quain set the throttle stop at 1/4" of travel, the car still ran like a monster, but looked just like the 396 motor he ran when he was a young man.
It was a really clean looking car also, and immediately brought yours to mind.
Wish you could have seen it.I will have to dig up a couple pictures:)

I love looking at the older cars and seeing what was done. I am trying to include some of what I find in my Stude. I agree it is a shame he doesn't show it where people can appreciate the work that went in to them to make them fast.

    Hi Guys

The car weighed 2300 lbs with no lead, and 3000 with for 9 lbs per inch in 64'
Then they went to 7 lbs and it came out and 2300 again and picked up 5 mph and the record of 121.80

When I was on the lite'ning it up kick I got out the flame thrower and cut out the sheet metal from the top of the firewall to the rear of the trunk, and stood back and my heart sunk thinking what the hell did I do as I really fuc--ed up now

Here is this 5 foot wide by 15 foot long hole , thinking where am I going to put all the new stuff [ seats - roll bar - alum floor etc] but it all worked out in the end and that is how you learn by jumping into the deep end of the pool

I changed a ton of stuff to get the weight out

Tube axle with 33 Willys parts and 3 leafs out of each side
    All alum firewall and floorboard
    Willys Radiator
Thin .030 stainless gas tank I made
    Glass front end
    Glass seats with alum uprights
    Gutted the doors
    Plex windows
    Very lite interior
And the best of all the 4 American mag wheels

The lower side shot is the one that Bill cleaned up, it looks really nice and it was taken in front of the local high school wall
The name was taken down and the holes were left to show and Bill filled them in and cleaned up the trash too

The top pic was taken at the start of the return road at the San Fernando drag strip the day Pat Broiler shot the pics for the Dec 65' Hot Rod magazine feature

He put in a roll of color and I never saw them till 25 yrs later, now I have copys of them that are 2 1/4 square negs that make for a good print

Those two pic's sure have a different slant to viewing them as the top one has kind of a artsy look to it , and the lower shot has a look to it like ' This Baby is ready to do serious business '

Well Wrench you just really made my DAY, Thanks dude
It is really neat when you build a nice piece and deep inside you know it is right
Best of all is you don't have to say a word as the car speaks for its self
Then you also get the fun & pleasure of driving it too ' Priceless '

If you like you can PM me your email and I can send the up graded pic of the side shot that is real clean
    Just a thought, G Don

PS Be glad to send a pic if anyone else want's one too
