Gas Tank Volume Formula?

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by curbspeed, Apr 28, 2005.

  1. I know it's H x W x L= ? Divided by What?(271?) Can't remember a damn thing unless I write it down anymore. I sure someone should be able to answer this for me. Thanks

  2. 231 cubic inches in a US gallon.

  3. Ok, is that the number I divide into the multiplied dimensions? HxWxL= divided by 231. I not sure. Thanks

  4. Yes. HxWxL gives you total volume in inches (assuming you measured in inches and not lightyears, nautical miles or parsecs! :D ). Take your total vol. in inches and divide by 231. So say you came up with 2772 in. sq. Divided by 231=12 gal.

  6. Oh man. That is easy once you see it. I have always wondered how you figure that out.

  7. Thank you. I had this in my head at one time like I said but it just faded out. Funny how that seems to happen after 40.
